How can we Improve? Open discussion for ALL -please
Flags and shirts are great, but they have to have a strong base. The base here is growing and expanding over state lines at a exponential pace. How could it not? Florida is home to some of the best fishing spots- regardless of species- on the planet. Many groups here have paid some serious sand time dues and deserve the rightful respect afforded with those accomplishments. That being said, being cohesive and open is a great starting point. A "Us versus them" mentality has been exhibited many times in the past on other forums that seems to self destruct and tear foundations apart. Let's represent in a positive manner to ALL shark fishermen, regardless of site affiliation, team names, or vanity. Affiliation or vanity with a site doesn't put animals on the sand folks. It's the hard work with reward we all love. That is what will separate the men from the boys IMO. Be safe and tight Lines- Mark

That's a great point and I'm glad you touched upon it Mark -that regardless of site affiliation we should represent in a positive manner this great sport if we truly love it and set aside our diffrences-I agree 100 %.I've been saying that for a very long time and I go out of my way to be an ambassador for this sport by attending FWC meetings pertaining to shark regulations and attending and taking the defensive when beachside communities on the east coast try to ban shark fishing and we have made great strides but on the other side of that coin are the folks that talk a good game, run there own sites are on the computer posting but then we never see them at these very important events that affect our sport. It is more important to talk less and do more rather then the opposite.Site affiliation and team affiliation means nothing in Florida if our fishing rights continue to be taken away.We for one will continue to reach out to others interested as Mark implies in creating a stronger foundations not in tearing them apart. Thanks Mark.

Great coments.
I feel like ambit of a Lurker here as it seems like a fairly tight knit community on this site, which is what draws me to it. I am a south West Florida Boy at heart. My parents have owned a place since before I was born. My great grandfather was Floridian, somehow I ended up in Canada. Anyway, I now own my own place,on Ft. Myers Beach.
My coment would be that you guys are solid. Most of the people posting here are bring in trophy fish. I almost feel too insignificant to post here. The information on the site is hugely informative. I am active on another site which goes more into the how to, this site is more into the hove too. Well done.
I would be honored to fish with some of the heroes here. My buddy Jerry and I wil be fishing hard from April 21 until May 5th. My cell is 905-327-6704
This site is crazy good. Please keep up the good work it is much appreciated. Need to work on the SEO, as it is not very easy to find, but then again it is like fishing, if you want something good, you will find it if you look hard enough.
I would say NO to a name change; I realize I am a new guy , but this Site/Club is KNOWN ; it is based on Tradition;long standing Tradition , Love of Fishing& love of Sharks & BROTHERHOOD,
Good old SOUTH FLORIDA Friendliness ,"We're Family" atmosphere,
I got to watch a video of RENE on the Boat with his BIG Tiger the other Day & I saw & understand why There is now a SOUTH FLORIDA SHARK CLUB; the Fire & Dedication was so evident, I understand why anybody that knew & was Friends with RENE must miss Him something fierce, ,Wish I could have met & got to Fish with Him & I know we would've been friends 'cause I love Fishing & Sharks like Him, & go all the way or not at all,
I think the SFSC Name Honors all the original Sharkers who brought the Club to where & what it is now & we should Honor that by keeping the name.
There are plenty of ways to go without altering Tradition, that's all we see today , nobody honors Yesterday or it's Heros, or History & a people, country,or Group or Club that does not honor it's Heros & history, & past , has no future ,or sense of itself , that is not the case here, Heros,History &Tradition are Honored & I'm proud to be part of it.
I have been shark fishing for over 30 years and never knew about this site till two years ago.
I started out on the Texas site and they would mail me tagging equipment to tag sharks with.
It was them that told me about the black tip challenge . There I met this site and think it is great.
I wish I could of found it earlier. I would like to see more media coverage like I see on cable about fishing in Florida.
I feel this site is strong enough and has the talent to put out a few shows that could be aired on cable.

WOW!! I just read the comment up top and was deeply touched because I see that the hard work we have put into showing our history and our PASSION for the sport has been UNDERSTOOD and is APPRECIATED.Thank you DixieOutLawSHRKR.
I too believe that there is not enough respect and love for traditions in sport in todays world everything is driven by the almighty dollar and greed reigns over tradition and support of local sport teams is slapped aside in favor of new Stadiums and new names bought by some Billionaire Insurance company with deep pockets,,deep enough to step on all local sentiment.Teams in towns they were born in and kids grew up watching are often ripped away and relocated to new cities with more cash, there owners willing to sell themselves to the highest bidders.Traditions mean nothing!!In Miami I have seen the lack of Honoring History and historic places such as the Orange Bowl the home of the 1972 UNDEAFED Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami college football team which was torn down to make way for a new stadium by a Billionaire owner who got City of Miami funds
to build a new stadium with inadequate parking.Corruption and Greed kick tradition and dishonor the sacred places and monumental buildings with there long standing history and memories that cannot be rewritten because the world has changed so much.
The shark club will remain as has been for a long time but the significance of our unity and our history has taken a back seat to defending our rights as land-based shark fishermen which in recent years have been under attack.Whether you like or dislike our history it makes no difference because we have changed with the times to reflect a new concern for sharks that was not evident in decades past so we are at Peace with ourselves in the knowledge that we are CONCERNED about sharks and willing to help in any way possible to assure there survival.
We want to attract the new and find the old shark fishermmen who thought their sport had died and show them our continued passion for the sport in this new era and show them that yes indeed we honor and respect those that came before us and taught us the art of catching sharks. This is a site that RESPECTS AND HONORS and INVITES the new to get involved in our sport and to practice it with respect for the resource, but respect also for the pioneers who did things in different way because it was the way things were done at that time.

I Agree Will We Lost Too Much Already Our Piers, Boardwalks & Catwalks, Best Childhood Friends, etc. All Any TRUE Sharkfisherman Wants In His Heart Is To Fish at A Spot That We Can All Enjoy And Listen To Classic Storys. If Miami Is Thinking In Tourism For Profit, Oddly Enough A Good Amount Of Tourists Want To Come Down To Places Like Miami Beach And Fish! So What Does That Say?
i would abolutly love if it went to a vbulitin... it is such a better way of "forum" search functions that work.. the topicality is usually easier to look thru. i get on hear often and it dosnt really update much from where ive been what ive seen and what is new.

You know, I've been trying to come up with some ideas that would be truly useful to everybody that FISHES here, & this is one idea, I haven't 'ironed it out' yet but here goes:I KNOW EVERYONE REPORTS THIER TRIPs & Catches but it's all spread out :
but what about a seperate, ongoing record of CATCHES/RELEASES, that we can go RIGHT TO with:
SHARK LOG { ONE EACH MONTH OR ONE CONTINUOUS ONGOING DATED LOG ??? I think either way,a MONTHLY LOG or ONE CONTINUOUS DATED RECORD,IT SHOULD BE in the same spot like a STICKY. OK Here is my idea for:
THE SFSC SHARK LOG
1-TYPE of SHARK/SIZE =,Lth/WEIGHT/GIRTH/ PIC/
2- TIDE/Water conditions[calm,rough,choppy heavy etc,]/ Weather conditions/MOON PHASE/ Time/ DAY/NIGHT/LOCATION {???OK LOCATION OPTIONAL LOL}
3-BAIT/ROD/REEL/LINE /LEADER/HOOKor lure etc. { TOTAL DESCRIPTION of Tackle ,Bait,Lure etc}
4- LENGTH of time fishing till hit/length of fight to release
5- RELEASE: fast/slow / In, Out if so how long on Sand?/condition of SHARK when last seen
6- Your Experience, how long fishing, how long SHARKIN'
Any other data you feel important
The reason being ; this may help if there is a Record, all in one place ,showing all the above info, to help make every release successful, help everyone understand how to keep them alive to release, not fight them to total exhaustion & beyond recovery...
Plus whatever anyone else can think to put down or to ask ,
we can learn alot from each other .....this site has the best SHARKERS in Florida, that means The WORLD, the knowledge & experience is staggering.
Think about this: there are really terrific posts/threads here ,tons of info& if it was all condensed as far as SHARK CATCHES,imagine being able to sit down& see it all together with every shark caught ,how where when why,...priceless
THESE ARE MY PROSPECT PROJERCTS FOR THE SFSC FOR 2011:
(1) A PRIVATE CHARTER ABOARD THE YANKEE CAPTS FOR MEMBERS OF THE FORUM AND MEMBERS OF THE SFSC. AS I SHARED WITH WILLY:
-I PUT IT TOGETHER
- WILLY/CHRIS (SNOOK HUNTER) ARE THE TRUSTED TREASSURERS FOR THE DEPOSITS
(2) NOT TO BE DISCLOSED AT THIS TIME BUT I'M WORKING A DEAL WITH A MAJOR FISHING MAGAZINE TO DO A FIELD REPORT ON THE SFSC ACTIVITIES AND COME OUT WITH US FOR THE PICTURES AND THE REPORTS (MORE TO BE REVEALED) I'M THINKING A GATHERING AT LONG KEY BRIDGE FOR THE RENE MEMORIAL OR THE BIG HAMMER CHALLENGE. STAY TUNNED, IMAGINE SEEING YOUR SELF AND FRIENDS WITH ALL THE BIG SENATORS LINED UP AT LONG KEY AT THE NEWS STANDS!!!
GREAT IDEAS,that'd really be nice ,to see the Club doing what we all love best,in a "Fishing mag"& on top of that honoring Club History ,&Tradition
anyone have some thoughts on the "Shark Log " I proposed in the post before here?
My input on this one is
1. I would like a way of finding other members on a map or similar. I live in Australia which is huge but mu next door neighbour may be a member and keen to go fishing but to find out I have to search 39 pages of members and look at every member. If I could look on a map and see there is someone close I could contact them.
Check the map here http://alantani.com/
Or a list of distance from a common point would cut down the search.
2. It seems there are a lot of experienced shark fishers out there and it makes me afraid to post anything noobish. I'm going to post a report soon on the weekend just been just hope it is of some interest.
