I've posted on here a few times with questions, as I'm from Canada and I'd been trying to shorten the learning curve. I come to Florida usually twice a year and this year I decided I was going to get into shark fishing. I fished for the past week and caught NOTHING. Not even a run. I fished Bonita Beach, Big Carlos Pass, Blind Pass, and Bowmans Beach on Sanibel all with nothing to show. Finally this morning I thought I'd try Big Carlos Pass again. I started on the Lovers Key side at 730am but the tide was ridiculously strong for some reason and kept pushing my bait into the bridge. Because of this I went to the Fort Myers beach side and fished the corner where the Pass meets the Gulf. Within 20 minutes my reel was screaming. The shark kept getting caught up in weeds and going with the current, so it ended up taking me 1 hour and 40 minutes to get it in. I was using a Penn Spinfiser 8500 reel and Penn Prevail 12 foot surf rod so it wasn't exactly small tackle either. Every time I got it close it would just take off. Probably just my inexperience. Anyways the shark was hooked right in the corner of its mouth with my circle hook and swam away safely. I didn't have a chance to get a measurement, anyone want to guess its size?

Nice Sandbar Shark. Glad to see you got one. They will give you a good fight on a spinning reel. You are pretty close to my sweet spot. Glad to see a shark in the pass. Those dredgers have been messing things up. I will be there next week and hope to get a few of them, maybe a new year hammer.
