So this year I was gonna fish the blacktip challenge with some people I know. I started reading the rules and noticed that if your under the age of 18 you have to have a parent at the agler meeting. Im 17 and will be 18 on March 1st. My dad owns 3 businesses and works way to much, my mom is a vice president for a very large financial company. I personally work about 50 hours a week at my family's pawn and gun store. I know theres no way I could get either of my parents to that meeting especially since we live on the west coast near St. Pete So I emailed josh and asked him if there was anything I could do so I would be able to fish this year. Josh was very nice and replied to all my emails. But the end result is that I will not be fishing blacktip challenge. I just wish there was a way I could do it. If anyone knows of a way I could fish please inform me it would be greatly appreciated.

Have parents sign you over to the team capt. or at least gaurdian - HAHA

What about video conferencing this way your parent can be present. Josh is very high tech.

No josh said one of parents have to physically be at the meeting. Its frustrating but I know its cause of liability issues and stupid legal crap. Not mad at josh or the tournament its just a frustrating situation.

I agree with Snook...You should just have your parents sign you over to me for 3 days   jkjk. (I wouldn't call myself team captain either) That'd be funny though...Hopefully something can be worked out in time while we still try to find our location (Which I think will be near the meeting).

Idk how that would actually work. I think I would legally have to be your guardian and that would be a tad more than just a piece of paper I would assume.

You should go all the way and make it an adoption.

this is what josh sent me In order to fish without parent going to meeting

you will need to follow these steps:

- your parents will have to contact a lawyer and get a minor consent form that contains a medical release. The adult who will be watching over you during the tournament will be your legal guardian

- they will have to both sign the document and get it notarized in the state of Florida

- They will have to provide the Blacktip Challenge a copy of the notarized document a week before the anglers meeting to verify that there are no mistakes. That will give enough time for both parties to fix any errors if they exist.

not impossible. but not easy or cheap since lawyers charge so much. if any one on the form and is a lawyer and would be so kind to create one of these forms for me that would be awesome. if not I know I cant afford it so ill just have to wait till 2015

or am I reading it wrong and just need to find one of these forms

I think it may be a pre-generated form they have on file however I'm not sure if any or what fees they would have for the consultation and such.

Another suggestion.. Talk to Dad and say. I love you and I love shark fishing. Can you take some time off to be with me so we can have the time of our lives. Show him a photo or 2 and say - Dad - this could be us - Father and son - It would be priceless and you can hang the photo in your office. If he says no. Dad, I want to fish it with you but if you don't want to fish it with my I have papers you and lawyer have to sign so I can get an adult legal guardian who wants to fish with me. Think about it.
