Jd hammer took the pictures of the pictures at the Reddington pier this week(Jan 2011) and this big shark is in one and I'm wondering if it's a Dusky shark .The dorsal fin isb set way back unlike a bull and unlike a tiger so I'm thinking Dusky.Looks to be 6oo lbs it's very thick from head to tail,, maybe 10 foot long.If anyone knows the details please fill us in.

it looks like a newspaper article, on the top i believe it says: Season, September 30, 2000 or 2010, all newspaper companies keep a history of their news, search the archives or call the pier, im sure somebody will know...

i personally believe it is just a long bull and where the guy is standing makes the fish look a little bit bigger, JD told me the 285lb bull he caught from bahia honda was 9' 2" and from the stories ive seen people catch bull sharks about 10-12ft long every once in a life time, like that huge one from the river in africa!

Just an average fisherman.

After some research turns out the shark in the above picture was a bull 450 lbs caught by Rick Skoronek president or past president of the West Coast Anglers.

Yea, thats Rick Skrovanek - the current president of the West Coast Anglers Shark Division. He was a member of the original WCA club on old Indian Rocks Pier in the early/mid 80's. The WCA club fell apart not long after Hurricane Elena destroyed Indian Rocks Pier. The club reformed around 10 years ago, with the shark division now fishing off of Reddington. Those are all bulls. He broke several rails one night on Indian Rocks when a jaw-hooked bull catapulted him through the air when he was setting the hooks. He landed that big bull and the picture was a Indian Rocks bait-house classic: Rick, bleeding from the mouth, with this big bull hanging from the scales.

Is reddington still any good for fishing? I've heard otherwise.

Twin bulls Rick's and Dave Stein's I was there that night and as far as readington the owners are awful greedy pigs and have ruined the last pier in the Tampa bay area with greed and no maintenance.

Those guys taught me how to Shark and Tarpon fish out there. I grew up out there as a little "pier-rat" fishing with Rick, and Stein, and the grouch Jannet  but I agree, it has been RUINED by owners greed and lack of maintenance. When I came home from the Corps it had all changed. Thats when I took to the sand. Then I discovered the SFSC. Havent been back out to Redington Pier in years.

i think you can only fish reddington till 11:30pm which sucks in my opinion i like to start at 830pm when the sun goes down and fish till the sun comes back up.
also ft desoto closes at 11 or 11:30pm too. i think this started 3 years ago.

reddington is also a rip off charging for extra rods and vip section.

i really hope someone buys the gandy pier fixes it and reopens. this would be nice

I agree! When I got back from Iraq and finished my 4 years I stopped fishing Redington and started fishing Gandy religiously, it is by far one of my Favorite spots for Tarpon and Bulls! But then they closed it down. F'ing crushed me, seriously. I wish they would re-open it I'LL TAKE MY CHANCES IT FALLING DOWN! But somehow I doubt they will, to much $$$ to restore. And the 2 counties seem to be butting heads right now. Rumor I hear is a local dude wants to help pay to restore the St.Pete side but not whole thing, and our great local govt wants him to help with the Whole project or nothing.
