I think the tiger record can be broken from land within the next few years. The question is, will the angler weigh the fish? The answer is most likely no. The fish will probably be released and that record will stand until someone from a boat catches one and drags it back to a scale at the marina.

Speaking for myself, If i caught what i believed "could" be a record shark. The shark is going to die sorry all you lurking Huggers. But a record is special plus we as fishermen have the LEGAL RIGHT to take 1 a day.
PS: A record shark is the only shark i will kill, Unless i use a small 1 for bait. ![]()
Anyone breaking one of those records from land can have a spot in shark fishing history.Just look at Walter Maxwell's Tiger shark of 1780 lbs from a S Carolina pier in 1964 ,,,,,,,no one has beaten it or come close .The baits that man used set him apart from the rest of the crowd,,,,,he was on the cutting edge ,,,,,observed the sharks and learned from what he saw, and if you research it the way i have he is very often written about and used as one of the most extraordinary catches ever (boat or land)one of the biggest feats ever accomplished in angling history.I for one will try to leave my mark on that book if it's the last thing i do!!!
IF A BIGGER HAMMER THEN 1280 LBS IS CAUGHT FROM LAND IT WILL BE A MONUMENTAL ACCOMPLISHMENT AND WILL MEAN MAYBE BIG CONTRACTS FROM REEL COMPANY'S AND LINE MANUFACTURERS AND THAT PERSON WILL BE ABLE TO PUT ON A HIGH PLACE LAND-BASED SHARK FISHING,,,,,,,,,,WHO WILL DO IT?WE'LL SEE!!!!
Look at Capt Bucky Dennis and all the slack he's gotten but you KNOW what at the end of the day it's his name in the record books in those TWO WORLD RECORD spots
1)BIGGEST HAMMERHEAD ON 130 LB TEST =1280 LBS
2)BIGGEST HAMMERHEAD ON 80 LB TEST =1062 LBS

The Black Tip that I caught in last years BTC came out to just over 150pds using the formula and that can be off a couple pds one way or the other. I wasnt going to kill a breeding female full of pups and drag it past the condos to find out.
The Bull and Lemon records could be broken. We have caught plenty of big fat 9 and 1/2 ft to 10 ft Lemons but I dont have any idea how close they would fall to the record but it has to be in the ball park.
i really think that record for the biggest bull will get beat
but i dont know im wrong or not but i thought they were going to take the hammer head off the list
The marine artist Guy Harvey recently wrote to the International Game Fish Association in Dania Beach, where he sits on the board, urging it to stop keeping world records for catches of tiger sharks and great hammerheads.
"The IGFA needs to take a leadership role on this," said Steve Stock, president of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. "We think there are certain species -- the great hammerhead, for example -- that they shouldn't be accepting."
It's a matter of time.
I definatly think records are made to be broken. The dusky record is way low, i have seen pics of 13' duskys that looked like a vw bug. Of course the long liners have been rough on the duskys cause it takes 35 years to make a 10' dusky. They grow very slow. Every thing is posible cause the coast is not long lined as much as the deep water. Check out the black tip Sean caught last winter, it was 7'8" and was over 200lbs. We catch this size often, we now know and can document next time. If it is a leagle fish there ant nothing wrong with keeping ya fish. Enjoy it while we can because the bleeding hearts and the artists will see to it that every one of our rights are striped from us all.
