I think what it meant by that is that theyre trying to designate the pier as the only fishing area of the park and right now they havn't been enforcing it along the boardwalk.

Good news. I just got an email from a director of the park and recreation. he says that " absolutley the architect is designing the pier and the commssion has already approved funding for the demolition and replacement ". i may get a copy of the actual plans. I'll keep everyone posted.

i grew up on that pier and enjoyed catching snooks and snappers there year round since i was like 5 years old. One of the best spots in miami for night time snook fishing if you knew what your doing. Caught the biggest of my life there , weighing in at 29lbs!!!

Luis you dont know how great this news is to me, thank you so much. can you imagine a new developement giving us beach access as well, like sumething that would cut acrosss the rocks and on to the beach side were we would be given the best mackeral fishing in florida.

The only two piers left in Dade county are South Pointe and Newport and neither one is currently open .I hope they get it done soon.Options for the land-based fisherman down here are dwindling because of so called property rights and lack of beach access in many cases ands now the communities where these piers are located have to deal with less funding because of the decrease in there tax base(declining property values)so the needs of the fisherman take a back seat to what they consider more important for there city.

My friend Alex on newport pier back in the 70's,,,,notice the long pier gaff on the right side of him-that gaff was used on plenty of big kingfish and cobia back then
