Shark Fishing Banned at Newport Pier?MAYBE NOT !!

Hey everyone, my name is Alex and I am new to the club and forum. I am a custom rod builder and reel repairman out of Miami.

I've heard talk that the newly re-opened pier in Sunny Isles (Newport Pier), has banned shark fishing off it, and may ban fishing all together eventually, making it just a walking pier. I personally haven't been out there yet to see their rule postings, so I can't confirm this myself.

If anyone knows more about this topic, please post a reply. It would be a damn shame to see this once great pier become just a walking attraction for tourists.

Yeah we've been out there a few times and the "NO SHARK FISHING" sign is part of the Rules but its always been that way AND WE CAN ADDRESS THAT WITH THE PIER AND NEWPORT RESORT OWNER , a very nice man by the name of Doctor Cornfeld. He may listen to our suggestions on removing that Rule.We could ask him to allow us to shark fish only after dark and promise to release all shark, and leave no stinkin shark bait on the pier or on the beach. We can also explain to him that in the year 2013, people understand sharks much better then they did in the past and that sharks present NO DANGER to bathers or tourist coming to his hotel-----I think he will be receptive to OUR IDEAS if we are respectful and he understands that we are sincere in benefiting the pier and the anglers .Our history at the pier can work to help ease Doctor Cornfeld's worries because we grew fishing on this pier and have good intentions. We have to develop a relationship with him and let him know that we can boost the pier attendance 10 fold by Advertising on this and other fishing sites and by holding tournaments at the pier, setting up other events at the pier to boost angler involvement. This is our hometown Pier and if we get involved and show the owners that we care about the community and consider this Historic pier part of our heritage and want to help it thrive we will be seen as part of a solution and not a problem.

Here is the first Newport Pier Report since it opened
