I hear ya. The first rod I ever built was stolen while I was in Iraq. My brothers used it and left it in the backyard leaning against the fence to dry after rinsing it off. Someone saw the rod tips from over the fence and just pulled them all over. Lost a few Star rods with 4/0 red wides, my custom with TLD 15, and a few random spinning rods Stradic, Sedona, on Star rods! I was pissed to say the least! I came home and half my rods were gone! WELCOME HOME HUH! After that I took all my Shark reels back to Camp Lejeune with me and the rods went to my female best friends house who doesn't fish. (Wrapped in ceran wrap in a closet.) Its sad that you have to protect your gear from scum. I like to mark all of my gear in one way or another, along with my firearms and really anything of value. I have all serial numbers on file too. Just in case. Most things are never seen again but if they are that gives you a leg to stand on. If I ever see an 8ft kingfish size custom with 9 chrome fuji foulproofs, an 11in foregrip, 8in butt, wrapped in teal underwraps and black overwraps and no decorative chevron except a 2in teal bar. I'll be asking alot of questions very quickly.
Sadly my 542 was all black with triple foot green rings, the only noticeable thing on it was the line cut on the fore grips from turning fish at the pier and when I hooked the monster in my sig. I've never had so much trust in one of my rods like my 542, I knew if I set the rod on the rail and leaned back the lines gonna break or that mother*ucker was turning. I'll never forget this one day I was fishing at Redington and Probably a 120# fish just ate my bait, and tried going straight under the pier. Instinct kicked in I hopped onto the piece of wood under the second rail and pulled so hard I thought I was gonna break my back, but the fish turned and it was all up and down from there. Also, basically the same thing happened to me I was cleaning my gear outside my house, forgot to bring it in lost a 12/0 and an indian rocks rod with all rollers too.
