wire frame vs. foulproof

While watching a show about long range tuna fishing in california on TV, I noticed that the rods most people had had wire frame guides, such as the ones made by Pac Bay. I looked at Seeker rods and, they also have wire frame guides.

I'm used to seeing foulproof, or "snake" guides on piers and party boats. I noticed that Seeker, who is a big seller on the west coast, uses wire frame, while Star Rods based out of Stuart, have foulproof guides on their rods.

What is the reason for this difference?

What is your preference

Wire frame is soldered. Foul proof is one continuous piece. I prefer foul proof hands down. They last forever & won't cut you off! :D

I have both and ive seen both break, the snake guides break near the base and the ring in the wire frame just completely comes off, ive never seen either break from line pressure, but i have seen them break from being bent, squished, and misused.

Some people tell me the wire frames are a lot tougher, but i prefer snake eyes because they last a long time if used properly and they are cheap.

Just an average fisherman.
