Off the shelf rod for a 12/0?
I've been looking for an off the shelf rod for a 12/0. The only requirements I have is that it is no less than 6'6" and preferably 7ft w/ metal reel seat. I use star rods on my smaller reels and I like them a lot, I would prefer to find something similar to my 30-60# custom crafted star rod with a higher line rating, 40-100 or 50-130 would be great. I realize there are not many off the shelf rods that will seat a 12 but I was wondering if anyone knew of any 6'6" to 8' off the shelf models that would match good with a 12? Was going to get a 7' crowder rod rated 40-100..but it looks like it has a graphite reel seat and I don't know why it would be on a rod rated for 100# line, graphite reel seats belong on spinning rods. Thank you in advance for any input.

Do you recall which model it was? I've seen some stout 8 foot star rods at a couple of the local tackle shops but they're stigmatized by graphite reel seats.

it was a dlx 12/0
you can get all the boat rods in the world off the shelf that will handle a 12/0, like a fennwick or penn or something, but you can get some beautiful shark rods used in some places, like the rods shops in west palm beach, just today i bought a 9ft SABRE rod for my 9/0 and it can handle heavier than a 9/0 at xgeneration rods in Lantana, every time i go there they have a rod I want... and the guys that build rods there do excellent jobs!
Just an average fisherman.

That sounds awesome man I wish we had more places like that on the west coast closer to where I live. You've just inspired me to check out the pawn shops in my area for a good used rod I am probably going to pick up 2 rods because once I get my tax return check I'm either getting another 12/0 for a backup or a 14/0.
