Sand anchors
Anyone use the claw weights I think they would help when pass fishing or long drops tired of small sharks cutting off my breakaway rocks on long drops but how far from the hook would the weight have to be and would I just use a snap to connect it?

They are great. I clip mine top the mono section of the leader when I use them. I will use a 5oz for short drops on braided line, 12 or 16oz on the long drops, or short drops on rougher days, and 32oz on rough days. I do not usse them in rocky areas. back to breakaways in them reefy spots.

Thanks so the top of the mono section is where the swivel you tie your main line is right?

Yes. I will have a leader comprised of: Swivel > Mono > swivel > Wire > Hook. I use a snap/clasp to connect the spider weight to the mono part of the leader. It can slide around on the mono and will not move passed the crimps to each swivel.

The thicker the wire the better it will hold. You can fish a pass and have 3lbs of lead dragged down current but use a 12oz claw with 1.5mm wire and it will hold no problem. I don't even use weight off the beach. A 5lb chunk of bait will sink on its own and a thick gauge copper sand anchor taped to the leader will hold your line in place just fine. You want it attached so it digs in when you pull tight but pulls out when a fish picks it up. The current on your mainline is what keeps it in place.
Thanks man
