Momoi Diamond Braid, true breaking lbs????????
yes i have fished it in 130 and 200 it is buy far the best braid u can buy for a big reel and breaks well over it rated strenght i would stay with 130 on just about any reel i tied my tr-x 50w spooled with momoi 130 to a buddys 14 spooled with 250 power pro it took awhile to to get the 14 to stop letting drag slip(had to wrap it around the reel 5 or 6 times). but it was about even after 3 or 4 time the 250 had broke twice and the momoi once or twice. also u can if about 1500 yard of 130 on a 50w with no top shot.
Diamond braid is hollowcore, so according to all the tuna guys it should be substantially stronger than regular powerpro or any other solid spectra braid. Hollowcore Ace is powerpro's new line (recently bought by shimano?) and I have heard good things about it as well. Most of the reading I have done on the heavy braids tho tends to lead to Jerry Brown Hollow being the best. If you use heavy diamond braid please let me know your experiences with it. Goodluck
If I can ever find the breaking strength of the stuff, I might load the 80w with about 8-900 yards then top it of with the 130 Momois diamond mono. This should keep my capacity up and i should be able to lock the Avet down with out worry of breaking the line.
I have the 130 JB and 100lb momois diamond mono now, but all it takes is some small abrasion on the line and it breaks the 100lb mono in the rod blank at 60-65#s of drag when testing. I know its overkill but if your mind questions the strength or your not confident in your gear, it seems like it fails every time.
I am trying to get away from replacing 200 yards of 100lb Diamond mono after every trip. If the chance comes when I do hook a true JIANT, I want to be confident that I can lock my drag down and fight the fish... not laying on my back in the sand
wishing I had stronger line
Dont get me wrong JB is some good stuff and I have no problems putting there 200lb Hollow as backing. I am just curious on the Diamond braid, I like the new stuff, like the Suffix 832, IMO there is no other braid even close to as good as that stuff. 80lb an under
I 100% agree with you on the confidence thing, hell I even was worried about my line to line knots with solid core. I did find this article which was interesting and have started tying the improved bristol to a bimini for my connections unless I am using hollowcore.

I think the biggest issue with the braid is no stretch so it just breaks at a certain point, where as heavy mono stretches farther and farther before it eventually gives. But I see momoi as different, as its extremely strong until knicked (as u stated) then it breaks and tears apart easily. When in good shape ive read on melton inter. that 130lb diamond breaks at a staggering 244lbs, but ive used 130lb diamond and I have had better overall results with ande. So maybe the braid isnt what you should be trying out thats different? Maybe a different mono like ande, bullbuster (recommended here, Ive never used) and my all time favorite, triple fish. Triplefish does stretch but is as tough as nails for fishing for shark.
Good stuff stellarol. Thanks for the link.
I guess you can say its a personal preference when it comes to braid, the reasons you stated like no stretch are one of the main reasons I like it so much. I love how you can feel the fish so much more, you can tell where its heading, feel thrashing head shakes and even the pump of a the tail.
Mono stretch is good and bad... Bad when you have 400 yards of rubber band in the water, its hard to tell whats going on, if a fish loops you out, you spend more time fighting your line then you do the fish, you really cant feel that much when you get a lot of mono in the water. Bad water drag, sometimes you cant get a bait to stick because of the current pulling the weight. I have no clue how some fish straight 100lb mono, make a long drop with a J hook are even able to set the hook?????(running man 30yards up the beach) LOL. Good is when you have abrasion factors, or when your fighting speedy fish that can slack you up, the mono water drag will help keep the hook in place. Shock of snapping tight, stuff like that. You know!
I would like to get some backup on the Momois diamond line as far as breaking easy once it gets nicked. The shit is expensive and like you said the breaking strength is nuts for the diameter of the line, thats why I went with it. I have broken the 100lb diamond mono a handful of times now and that was with a little over 60lbs of drag. I talked with Dennis Braid on the phone about the line breaking in the rod blank, and not at the knot. There is no way I should be breaking the 100lb mono, when the true breaking strength is 152 lbs. Dennis seems to think I might have just got a bad spool of line, he gave me a place to send it for testing but I have not done that yet.
I have also tried out the Suffix 100lb mono and it did the same thing, broke in the rod blank at a little over 60lbs of drag. Before you all say there is something wrong with the rod... I Have changed out blanks switched reels and have gone over every little thing on the rods looking for burrs or rollers not working. Same thing, line breaks some where in the rod rollers.
I do have to add that the line will hold 60lbs of drag well when its a slow steady pull, but once you get some stop start and a little speed involved it breaks.
I think I will take stellarol's advice and try a few different monos. I still want to find out the true breaking strength of the Diamond braid. I am running 500 yards of JB then about 700 yards of 100lb Diamond mono on my 80w now. I just hate all that mono, I would like to run more braid and no more then a 200 yard top shot. My favorite set up right now is... Avet 50w spooled with 940 yards of 130lb Sufix performance braid, topped of with around 150 yards of 100lb Momois mono. It fishes very nice from the beach to the center rigger offshore.
My main question for the breaking strength of the diamond braid was to compare the diameter and strength against JB... If there both the same size, but the Diamond breaks higher I will go with that, if there close to the same I will stick with JB.
I have sent Diamond Braid a email but no response yet.
