I have a sit IN kayak that I hardly ever used. I have notice in shark fishing pictures, with kayaks running bait, all are the sit ON type. Is there a difference between the two in using them in the open ocean? Thanks, in advance for your input!

a sit in kayak would be ok for really calm days but trying to get thru the surf you will take on water and lose buoyancy which is not a good thing. a sit on top kayak is all but unsinkable because it is sealed all the way around and you sit on top of it making it the ideal choice for getting thru breaking surf - it is also easier to get off and onto for getting thru the surf on the way out and back in.

The first kayak I ever had was a hybrid, not even a full fledged sit in. First time I used it I took a baby wave and it sank like a rock. Needless to say I sold it and bought a sit on the next week.
