First Shark Rod set up for a brand new wanna be
Okay so here is what I have so far putting together my first set up:
Penn 114H 6/0 already spooled with 50lb mono (it came that way when i bought it used and owner said it was all new line) Is that adequate??
I bought 500yds of PP 150lb braid and bought Berkley Trilene 80lb mono thinking would be the top shot.
I'll be fishing in the Ft. Myers Sanibel area to give you an idea of the conditions.
My questions are:
1.Is the 50lb mono enough?
2.What length rod and weight class would you guys recommend for the reel I have. I'd like to stay under $100.00 for the rod if possible, and also rollers or just the guides?
3.What are your thoughts on re-spooling with the 150PP and 80Lb Mono........I have experience dealing with large fish so i thought the heavier line might be more forgiving of my less knowledgeable fish handling.
I'm open to opinions since i have no real knowledge
This site has been a great help so far. Thanks to all!
I would re-spool it with the braid and topshot just to get more line on that 6/0.
Unfortunately I do not have knowledge of fishing that area so I dont have a rod recommendation for you. Rollers are nice but not necessary. A roller tip would be great though. Keep an eye out for a used rod, locally. You might even be able to use a daytime sword rod, 50/100lb for a while and then look for something taller.
I assume even strong pier rod or surf rod would also work for that area.
