i was looking through some older posts and came across this picture and im wondering if there is any advantage of having 2 rollers for the first 2 guides instead of having one roller.

it is only better if you have a bud light every time you fish the rod. other then that it breaks off every time.

:D LMAO

...but seriously - there is no right or wrong on building a rod - that just tell you all AND that's also the reason why the custom building industry is a booming business in recent years!

Height from the reel to the stripper roller. I takes some of the server angle off the line. heavy rollers stick up higher on the rod so with a reel that big the line coming from the reel to the roller is a smoother transition.

I know what your saying. I saw a guy the other day that had a rod with a turbo for a stripper, then foulproofs. I wonder, maybe (like CJ said) the angle of the line coming off a HUGE reel like that. So, the first two rollers are for keeping the line from rubbing on the first guide too much.

Just my honest opinion,

no you dont know wha im saying. cj explained the use of a stripperroller guide. my question isnt about the stripper guide. it is about the picture above where the rod has a stripper roller then another roller above that stripper. like you can just put a bigger sized foul proof guide instead of another roller.

I think it has to do with the line rubbing the rod, needed the 2nd roller just to get the line a little higher maybe... that is from the video on youtube of the 16/0 getting stripped and the drag smoking.

Just an average fisherman.

i dont think it is fo rubbing because an aftco bigfoot stripper is same height as a size 25 guide. and the most line rubbing occuring would occur around the upper middle part f the rod since that is where the most bend happens and the bottom half of the rod is less flexable for backbone

Most of the time yes, it all depends on the blank... a parabolic like this bends all the way to the butt and if you dont have the guides/rollers in the perfect spot this is what happens.

That is a 6'3" 40-100lb parabolic Blackfin e-glass rod of mine with about 40lbs of drag. good Dolphin, White Marlin, sail fish rod but big fish its worthless.

CJ, i can not tell you how many rod builders DO NOT FOLLOW THE CORRECT STATIC TESTS PROCESS while building rods and you end up with a rod like you shown in your post. If the test would be done correctly the builder would add the stripping guide closer to the foregrip then add an extra roller guide after that.

Yeap!! and needless to say I dont use that mass production builder any more. Monster drags need custom built rods that get static tested time and time again with massive amounts of drag before any guide gets permanently put on.

You want to fix that rod for me??? strip it and turn it into one of those glow rods of yours with SIC ring guides instead of rollers.
