Official 2011 Big Hammer Challenge Reports,Pics,Leaderboard

Team Jurassic hit the beach for 4 nights. Fished 3 different beaches. 2 camps each beach. Lot of moving looking for the studs. We finally found a sweet spot! We had a heck of Trip and headed home with some nice fish and several new personal best!

Hope I didn't miss to many pics or mess up to many numbers....kind of hard to keep up with all this.

Took a heck of a team to put these sharks on the sand but every team has a most valuable player and think we all agree that more than half these sharks would never have seen the sand with out young Travis! Thanks Travis for all your hard work!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL TEAMS FISHING IN THE 2011 BHC.Great catches have been made on both sides of Florida so far and we hope to see even bigger sharks within the next 2 and half weeks of competition.Tigers being caught on both coast, a World Record sized hammerhead shark hooked and on the way to spooling a Penn International 130 loaded with 2400 yards of braid,big hammers and bulls hitting the sand almost daily and teams fishing harder then ever -can't ask for much more that.I am very impressed with the results so far. There will not be an easy win for any Team -this competition has moved to the next level with extremely well prepared Teams coming to Florida and showing they are a force to be reckoned with.The results so far prove to us that the teams that do better in this competition are the ones that Prepare Well, Work Together Well and are willing to go the Extra Mile to produce catches.

WOW!!!TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY BY THE RESULTS OF TEAM JURASSIC and TEAM PORK RIND

TEAM JURASSIC caught Twenty one sharks in only 4 nights of fishing that is truly Amazing!!.That's what I call "good preparation and hard work".These two teams came well prepared and ready for a fight and it paid off for them in a big way .These two Out of State teams have elevated this tournament to the next level because it proves that Teams from other states can come to Florida ,compete in the Big Hammer Challenge ,have fun and kick AZZ!! .Congratulations on a job well done I applaud your efforts.
Troy's Team Jurassic has taken the lead in MOST SHARKS CAUGHT BY A TEAM,also taken the lead in BIGGEST TIGER SHARK Caught and I believe SECOND BIGGEST BULL SHARK.Team Jurassic has what it takes to compete at any level and we are honored to have you guys and the other out of state teams competing in the 2011 Big Hammer Challenge .I also want to point out that another out of state Team leads in the Biggest Shark category "TEAM PORK RIND" leads the tournament with there 10 ft 4 inch Hammer and lead for BIGGEST NON SHARK with a 9 foot ray which will not be beaten by any Jewfish,Tarpon or Cuda -it will take a sawfish or bigger ray to take that win from them .Team Pork Rind was on the beach hardcore style for almost seven days straight through and there hard work paid off big time.

With just one week and 4 days of fishing there have been some very extraordinary sharks already caught in the 2011 BHC.The bar will be moved much higher I predict by what I have been seeing so far -teams fishing very hard on both sides of Florida and some very big Tigers and Hammers lost on the panhandle and on the east coast.As an example Ernie Polk lost a 12 foot plus Tiger after his #19 wire kinked and Timmy T lost a 15 foot hammer that took a 1500 yard run on a Penn international loaded with 2400 yards of braided line before mono topshot parted.Right now those two I mentioned are candidates for the HARD LUCK TROPHY with the Tiger and Hammer lost.There are monsters swimming out there that are exteremely hard to stop from land .Keep up the good work because there will be some much bigger sharks caught .

Sunday afternoon Rob hooked this 69" Grouper on 6/0 with 80lb test. He put up a nice fight.

First TIME EVER A GREAT WHITE APPROX 15 LONG WAS SPOTTED TODAY(4/26/2011) FROM THE END OF LAKE WORTH PIER.

THE SHARK CRUISED BY THE END OF THE PIER AT ABOUT 10 AM AND THEN DISAPPERED.ONE MONTH AGO OR SO JD HAMMER(James Fuqua ) AND EDDIE ESPINOSA WHO WORKS AND FISHES AT THE LAKE WORTH PIER SPOTTED A HUGE SHARK (15-16 FOOT)THAT LOOKED LIKE IT MIGHT BE A GREAT WHITE AND THEY SAY WAS DEFENITLY NOT A WHALE SHARK ALSO SWIMMING FURTHER OUT THEN THE ONE SPOTTED TODAY.TWO MONTHS AGO ONE WAS SPOTTED OFF DEERFIELD BEACH BY SOME SPEAR FISHERMEN WHO SAW IT EAT HALF OF A BIG AMBERJACK THEY HAD SPEARED.

PROTECTED AROUND THE WORLD BY MANY NATIONS AND SOMETIMES BY INTERNATIONAL TREATIES GREAT WHITE SHARKS ARE APPEARING IN MORE PLACES THEN EVER BEFORE AND CLOSER TO SHORE.
CHATHAM- MASS,MALIBU-CALIFORNIA,JACKSONVILLE -FLORIDA,DEERFIELD BEACH- FLORIDA AND NOW LAKE WORTH- FLORIDA.

TEAM HAMMER N THE PHENOMS

Team Hammer N the Phenoms is up 2 hammers.Both were caught by Jd Fagan.
The first hammer was caught by JD Fagan and wrangled in by me and him alone, It was impossible to get a pic of it measured with all the items, The can rolled away in the surf and we found it later, but we still had teh BHC 2011 flag so we hope it counts just as a catch.

We lost some a big shark last night... so I went to restock on bait for tommorow night. While I was at the marina I saw a sleeping nurse and plopped a bait on its head. Ended up with this 6'4" Nurse curse. Pain in the ass to pull it up on the dock by myself had to hold the leader and have it swim into the tail rope and pull it up. The mate and the captain came out of the boat to help me with the pics.

Just got a report of of a west coast team member that hooked up and fought a huge hammer for close to two hours on a 14/0 loaded with 1100 yards of power pro and topped with 500 yards of diamond braid .The shark took the angler down to 100 yards of line and in the end with almost all the line gone on the reel the shark tangled in some underwater obstruction and broke off.The bait used was dropped 30 yards off the beach close to a school of tarpon. The team involved will post there sharks later today.
