Guy Harvey Shark Tournament

Guy Harvey is a class act kind of person and I wish them all the success in the world but $1250 per two man team is very high and limits the great majority of interested anglers(in my opinion).So much for the average guy whose been hurting from these tough economic times.Nice of Mote Marine to align themselves with big money or is it the recognition and prestige that the name Guy Harvey will afford the tournament.If I were them I would try to use this tournament to increase awareness to the plight of sharks but would also try to get your average west coast shark fisherman involved by making it more affordable.The last big money boat shark tourney I attended on the west coast(2007 or 08) flopped badly because they were charging too much money for entry fee.It was The Grande Bite Shark Tournament by Capt Don Mull and I was there with the crew of "the Bite TV" to film the event .I was invited by Capt Kevin Pagan who was on the boat to serve as a consultant shark fisherman and I was his first mate.Our friend Jack Soler was cameraman,The Paxtons were there as was Dr Bob Hueter of Mote Marine Lab.The tournament organizer Capt Mull expected 50 boats and actually got 6 or 7.First annual was the last annual.I sure miss the old days when west coast shark tournaments were accesible by any passionate shark fisherman who owned a big Penn Senator and had a friend with a 21 foot openfishing boat.Getting old I guess.Just my 2 cents.I wish them all the luck in the world.
