HARD LUCK TROPHY

Given to the angler who comes closest to catching a Big One then loses It- Jay Cross Team "Little Rock"

team little rock
angler Jay Cross

So Jay and I head out to the South Skyway Fishing Pier, and none of our other team mates decide show up or want to go out. We looked at each other when we got there, and told each other, “we are going to hook something big to tonight.” So about 2 hours after we get there, the tide starts going slack, and then about 15 minutes after that, Jay's 14/0 starts screaming. So he lets the fish eat then about 5 or 6 minutes he sets hook. He asked me to run get his harness, so I do, and by the time I get the harness and catch up to him, the fish has taken him all way down to the first bathroom on the pier, which is about 6 light poles from where we were fishing. About a 45 min or longer tug of war is going on with Jay and the fish at this time, and we have no clue what it is and Jay finally gets it close enough to see what it is; its a huge lemon shark (looks about 11 foot)! Jay finally gets the shark close enough to the pier, so we can start walking her down, and Jay gets about 2 light poles away from me, and the 9/0 starts, to click which was set up for jew fish. I grab the 9/0 and start, the tug of war. What ever the hell hit, it was huge. I have no clue what it was, as it wrapped me around the piling, and the line popped. I reel up and put the reel in the truck, and grab the banner and the tape and head down the pier to catch up with Jay. As I am getting close to him, the shark seemed pulled the hooks!
