Well to stay the least, it has been a LONG month! We fished our rear ends off trying to catch that monster swimming around the deep blue sea too no prevail. Our team was at the mercy of Mother Nature for most of the duration of the tournament. If it wasn’t rough seas, then it was seaweed, if it wasn’t seaweed then it was green slime that sticks to your lines, if it wasn’t slime then it was thunderstorms with crashing lightning, if it wasn’t thunderstorms then it was high winds and strong current. However we pushed forward and endured it all. We fished will little sleep, cuts, scrapes, pulled muscles soreness to the point of barely being able to walk and fished till our fingers and hands were bleeding. We kayaked out more baits then I could even possibly count and went through bait like you could not even imagine. Our big freezer started out full and now we are down to nothing lol. Bait became a major issue towards the end and we were struggling to obtain it but we always managed some how. All this may sound extreme to some, but to us every bit of it was worth every second and we would do it all over again just to catch that shark we are always dreaming about.
My three daughters entered up this year and they were not able to catch any sharks that qualified but I will give them an E for Effort. They are some busy little girls with school, and softball, but they fished when they could. A couple of times I took them out just us girls, and they really made me proud. It’s a lot of work setting up and they helped get it all done. They helped haul all our gear, dug holes for the rod holders, tied on their leaders, attached weights, and even baited their own hooks after picking out what they wanted for bait. SOOO, well done girls we will get them next year!!!!
We did not do as well as we did last year but that is ok, we know there is always next year and we will be ready to do it all over again. :D
We had some great moments throughout the tournament. My dad and Travis were able to make it down for several days and it was so great to be able to fish with my dad and Travis again. My dad and I caught our P.B. Bulls together at the same time and that was just awesome to say the least!
Travis, as always you fished HARD during the short time you were here. You kayaked so many baits, and helped so much obtaining bait. We enjoyed our short time with you.
Dad, thank you for coming down and I enjoyed so much the opportunity fishing with you again. I had such a great time being on the beach with you. Congratulations on your P.B bull what a great feeling it was being hooked up at the same time as you with our bulls!
Tunastick….it was great meeting you. Thanks for the bait you gave us :D Hope to see you again soon!
The last thing that I want to add is to my husband, Troy. For those of you that don’t know him personally, he is one of the MOST dedicated land based shark fisherman you will ever meet! He is also the kind of fisherman that will do everything in his power to help others catch the sharks as well. I can count on one hand, in the last month how many times he came home after work to sleep in his bed. Almost every night was spent on the beach in search of that winning fish. He spent I don’t know how many hours on that beach while still working a full time job. I am so proud of him. He had a few big sharks lost, one being a Bull shark over 9ft that he had actually leadered onto the flats before it decided to give its head one more violent head shake that resulted in a pulled hooked. He had a couple of others and the line broke but he never gave up he just kept pushing forward. Most would have just felt defeated and called it quits but not him. He never ever gave up, and for that, I am very proud of him. He is the definition of perseverance.
