Nice spinner shark! It's very rare to catch one, especially here on the east coast. I don't believe I have ever caught one and there has never been one caught in the Blacktip Challenge. I wish the general public would stop calling blacktips "spinners". They look completely different.

Freakin' sick epic report and pix! Great job you guys. I can't believe all of the Sandbars on the Gulf side - that's crazy, they're rarely on the SE coast - ever? Ditto on the SP and BTH's comments. I/we've been talking about this subject for years now. Especially on the boards. There's no doubt the nickname "Spinner" is so often applied to BTs as both species can jump and spin. But in fact it is very rare to actually see a "true" Spinner. I've only caught a few and I've only witnessed the same on the beach in person. The distinctive dorsal fin difference, head shape and anal fin colorings are the keys. Especially the dorsal on telling the difference between the two. When the two species are babies/juvies it can be tougher though. This one is a "really" nice one - for sure. FWIW: I think "Bonito" actually ought to be called "Albies" too, 'cos that's what they are. Lol - just 'sayin!
