stormy weather bridge fishing
I left the house without even checking the weather. It was just me and a friend,,, who doesnt even shark fish or fish at all for that matter. we got grouper carcusses, and headed to the bridge around 4:00. When we arrived we noticed schools of cownose swimming, so i snagged two and got some nice fresh bait. put a midsection out on the 14/0 and a chunk on the 6/0.
It started off slow there, we sat all day without anything and at about 9:30 we got a run on the 14/0, it was a slow run and stopped occasionally then would pick up again, probably because it was a shark only 2x the size of the bait .
about a 60 lb lemon
when we got back to our spot we noticed that it got really cold then realized that a huge storm was heading our way, so we cleaned up and ran for underneath the bridge. We sat under the bridge for 2 hours when the storm finally let up.
When we emerged from under the bridge i noticed two friends of mine pulling up, so we fished together. while we all walked back up the bridge i noticed two more of my friends pull in
When we all started fishing together i put another midsection on the 14/0, about 5 minutes later it got a run. When i set up on the fish i was pinned to the rail and it took about 10 yards and stopped and the hooks pulled. then my 6/0 got a screamer, and before i could get to it my friend got to it and lost it. i put another set of baits down and waited. then my buddies got two runs back to back they both lost them somehow but hooked up.
the 4/0 almost got spooled , but then got off, i later find out that hes using all mono leader, so i lend him some wire
i walk past my 14/0 and notice the line is going straight under the bridge, time to see how the new gator rod does on a jewfish .
damn this thing almost pulled me over and it was only like 120 lbs
wrap it before you tap it!
when i got back i didnt realize that the tide has switched and it was going in slowly, i put the 6/0 down and it gets hit almost immediately, due to the tide going under i had to fight a lemon unde the bridge. the lemon picked up and immediately started burning line under the bridge. I kept the line away from the piling and worked him in slowly, i gave my noob friend the rod because hes never cauht a shark and he also lost a lemon earlier that night. he fights it a bit and walks it down and we land it, good shark for a first shark
with the amount of action that was going on that night, im surprised that we didnt land more fish, but between all of the fish that we landed that took about 3 hours,
but it was a good night to me. when the sun was coming up and the tide was going in strong we didnt get another run.
