Joe,Isa and I go out Saturday night to our favorite spot because we know for sure we will get a black tip or heaven know's what the tides will bring in, My 14/0 goes off after about an hour with a whole bonita and I set the hook to early 
I know better, but it happen's to all of us especially when it's the first reel to go off, then about 45 min. later starfish rod goes off and I tell her to let him eat and finally it pay's off, only problem it's to small and we set her free. All in all we don't go home without a catch and release, take pic's and have some fun.
you should have used it for BAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
