at about 12:00 pm my buddy caleb and i took the canoe out to our ray spot and speared two plate sized rays, took the canoe out into deeper water where we see cruising cownose rays, calebs got the ray slayin pitch fork with him and we pass a nice cownose and it takes off he throws the pitchfork perfect and hits the ray, and now the rays freakin all you see is this ray fly into the air with a pitchfork in its back and breaks loose of the pitchfork. the ray is now trying to swim straight but cant and is spiraling everywhere, doing some crazy acrobats and finally lays on the bottom upside down and we stab the smaller spear into its gut...success. we cruise the sandbar for a while and see a monster cownose, i steer the canoe steady and caleb stabs it dead center and this cownose has to be 40 lbs it was massive, so we got our bait then left. we meet up with our buddy scott and carpool to blind pass. the reels we were running were calebs 14/0 on his 9 foot fenwick, and his del mar 285 with 20 lb mono on a shakespeare 8-) , scotts 14/0 on a 7 foot harnell and his tyrnos, and my avet 80w on a 9 foot gatorglass. we kayak out small chunks of ray and caleb puts a chunk of jack on the del mar. 45 minutes later the del mar starts screaming and he works in a 5 foot sandbar within ten minutes haha.

about 20 minutes after we released the first shark my avet starts screaming and as soon as i set the hook the reel starts bookin fast, runs for awhile and i put the reel into low speed and cannot turn his ass so this shark is going up and down the beach stripping drag. i finally manage to turn it and work it in for about 5 seconds and he just takes off fast and my line goes slack nooooooooooo! reel it in and something cut the 400 lb mono clean
:x . now the sandbar sharks are at full throttle feeding frenzy total we landed two but we hooked up to like 3 other sharks including the beast.

practing for bhc

and scotts narcolepsy kicks in

Way to go on the sandbar sharks .Congratulations!! :geek: From the fast action looks like you got a great spot there.I quit using the heavy mono leader when my buddy Ken had 400 lb mono cut right thru by a big Tiger in the wash as we were leadering it during the 2011 BHC,,,,no more heavy mono for me bud.All my rigs NOW are 20 feet of 480 lb cable on top, and double #19 at the hooks ,a swivel in between-------GOT THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

Hopefully they'll still be on West Coast in a week.

Good job guys.

Damn Will, that sounds like an expensive rig, but you are preparing the troops properly for battle. I have a feeling all the preparation will pay off in 2012!!!!

You can buy 480black coated galvanized for like 11cents a foot, not that pricey.....

Nice hookups, the monster eludes once again! That is what keeps us fishing hard, as this sport is so far from easy.

Nice sandbars, especially the one on the delmar... recently bought an avet lx and looking to hook into some sharks with it soon.

Just an average fisherman.

it was funny most of those sandbar sharks were pulling good drag on the heavy tackle but when the del mar got hit with 20 lb mono we thought it was a redfish or something
