October - December 2015 - Bulls, Lemon and Tipper

Less trips, less fish, but higher success rate LOL!

10/12: Hit the local beach on a SOLO trip and landed a 7'8" Male Lemon on the Avet HXW. There was a couple that had walked by while I was hangin out with a line in the water. The man said to me "Maybe you will have something big on the line when we walk back." I had just gotten a tail rope on the fish when they came back and I told him he was right LOL. He was amazed. He was nice enough to give up his beer for a moment to take a pic for me. First fish of the Fall for me and I was home early!

10/13: I brought my father to the beach to get him on a good fish. I dropped a bait for him and went to rig my own rod up. within a couple minutes there was a hit and the fight was on. I set him up and turned the rod over. It was a good fish, probably a lemon. Definitely not a Tipper or Nurse. After a little while, I grabbed the flashlight and tail rope and went to the water. Fish was close. Before I could see the fish or the leader my father yelled "I lost it, He's gone!" This man is having the worst luck.

I drop a new bait. Walk over to my rod to rig up and the rod goes off again. It stopped before I got there. I pulled in some slack and there is still bait. I finally get my rod rigged up and the bait dropped and before I get a chance to sit down, I get a small hit. An hour goes by and I drop a new bait for Pops. After another 30 minutes we pack up. One lost fish, 3 stolen baits.

10/27 SKUNKED: Went out for the Full moon with my buddy Adam. Conditions were not the greatest but we had to give it a shot before he went away for work. There were some fish around but with the wind, waves and weeds, it was hard to tell exactly what was going on. Couple nibbles and stolen baits. Something had picked up my bait on the 130 and brought it several yards straight in and dropped it. We left a couple hours after the high tide without any luck.

11/8: Hit the sand with a couple guys (Ken and Romeo) that are learning the ropes. I landed a sharpnose shark and I knew they hang around in numbers so I moved to a smaller rig that I would typically cast out on the 12' surf rod. I yakked out a small chunk. One of the guys had a slow hit on his Mak 80 but it was dropped. Still had his brick line. After 30 minutes of no action I changed up the bait. I sat down for the first time and after a few minutes I had a slow hit. then stopped, then went out again. I thought it was a sharpnose until I set up on him. It was heavy so I thought it was a nurse. I drag this fish in at a 45 degree angle to the south. We see it is not a nurse, so I assume it is a lemon. I Shout "It's a Bull" and that's when the fight started. This fish bulldogged straight out! I got him turned around after a short run and then we battle side to side at the sand bar and then at the shore line. It was a strange fight to say the least. Like two different fish in one battle! This guy had a good bite mark on him too. Taped the fish @ 8'2". It was a healthy male but not like those big fat female bulls. Romeo landed a sharpnose just before we left.

Big Shout out to Romeo and Ken for on the leader and tail rope. There was a good little drop off at the shoreline and that fish did not want to get beached. All three of us forgot ropes LOL and Ken ran to the truck to grab one.

11/21: Hit the local beach for the 10:20PM low tide bite. It had been raining all day but weather called for clear skies from 9pm till 11pm. A couple guys were coming out to see what was going on. I dropped the bait at 9:03pm and was hooked up at 9:49pm. She was a solid tipper and a handful since I got her before the guys showed up. They did get there just in time for the release. I had another bait in at 10:20 and it was picked up at 10:23pm but it was stolen. Started to drizzle at 11 so we packed up.

12/26: The weather forecast wasn't too bad and the webcams didn't look that bad. they both lied. I hit the sand and it was whack. Lots of white water, big shore break, and two other breaks out there. Turned around and went home.

12/27: Conditions were supposed to be a little better than the day before. I knew that even though the forecast was not accurate and the conditions not great, they might be fishable. We arrived and the water was rough, but not impossible. Had some fun in the kayak LOL. I dropped one bait and caught one fish. 7'10" Male bull shark. My buddy had a bait stolen and another one picked apart.
