Hammer Head and other sharks
1st trip of the BHC - So excited
Toughest fish of the night is the foul hooked blacktip on the 4/0 that ran down the beach about a 1/2 mile on the Tarponator.

My rod bounced a few times and landed this fat guy.
I landed a hammer on another trip but I couldn't of done it without my team.
The tarponator was sleeping and woke up by the sound of my sweet Alutecnos.

Carl's reel sings and stops. Mine took off like a bat out of hell. I set the hook and hold on for a nice run. Carl and Bill move the other lines and I get in the harness. Line goes slack while I'm getting my harness on and I start to reel. I never catch up to the fish in high speed. The fish bolted into the beach and then bolted due east. He hit with a full speed run. I went from holding zero drag to 30lb in less then a second and was dragged forward. I was going in until Bill ran over and saved me from going in the water. The line was fully slacked and then went taugh in less then a second. That was a great learning experience. Bill never left my side after that event.

The fish was tough. We all thought it was the winning hammer. I fought the fish for about a total of 2 hrs. In the end, I would gain 50 yards and loose 55 yards, but I could not give up. Something seemed strange.. Carl went out in the kayak to check it out. We shined our lights on him but he want to far for us to see him in the abysses. He comes back in screaming - ITS a HAMMEEEEERRRRRRRR. Carl Reports, "Its a hammer on the surface, Its bigger then the kayak and it keeps circling. I think the line is caught on something. Give me a knife and I'm going to free the shark." Carl takes the knife in his mouth and paddles out to the shark. Nothing happens for another 20 min. while Capt. Blackbeard is 150 yards out with a knife in his mouth and playing with the beast. Drag screams, Carl comes back and we beach the fish. Carl reports, " I followed the line out and there were about 5 other lines attached to it by the hammer head. I cut those lines one by one and the last one had me next to the Hammer while he was splashing water on me. The last line had a lot of tension on it. I cut it and the shark was gone. Where are you at?"

We hit up Boca Grande for a quick trip

Mr. DJ passed out
