GIANT BLUEFIN TUNA SPOTTED AT LAKEWORTH PIER YESTERDAY.
I went to the Lake Worth pier yesterday. It startes out slow with westerly winds,no fish or bait runs all morning then about 2:00 PM the southeast wind started to blow. The bait started to flowing in close to the pier. I looked to the south and saw what looked like a ten foot hammerhead shark coming towards the pier. As it got closer I saw it was swimming like a Dolphin.. I took my dimmond jig and tossed it out to scare it away. When my jig hit the water the fish swam almost straight down to look at it. It was about 800 lbs and ten foot long and massive. There was no question in my mind what I saw. I have been fishing the pier for almost fifty years and never seen a bluefin before. I have heard stories put did not pay much attenion to them. Now I know. Ive seen them with my eyes and will never forget what I saw.Timmy T saw one about 300 lbs but this was the biggest ive ever heard of at the pier ![]()
So going back to last year there have been sailfish, a mako, a great white, a bluefin tuna and an International 130 dumped by a 15ft + hammer at lakeworth pier. Here at the pier I fish we get redfish, trout, snook and an occasional jack.....damn this place sucks ![]()
When one of the strongest fish in the Ocean swims by by Lake Worth pier we again are assured that this is a World Class fishing spot where many extraordinary fish have been caught over the years and many more have been spotted and never hooked.The blue blue waters of the Gulf Stream runs closest to Florida right in front of the pier and so it's anyones guess what fish will show up from one day to the next .It took a legendary fishermen to spot this great fish and make it a very worthy story,,thanks JD.

😆 Man, I wish it would have hit the diamond jig
I knew yesterday was going to be a good day.
I was tied up at work
You think a 16 0 would have got him in?
No, it would get smoked! A few months ago I spoke to Tony from Tony's Tuna Charters up in PEI and he said he has seen 80w's get stripped to nothing in 2 minutes (without backing up the boat).

Wow! Freakin' sick crazy. Proof positive you never really know what you might run into in SE FL. Amazing! Too bad somebody didn't hook up with the Beast. Not often someone lands a BF (Giant or Schoolie) from a Pier or on the Beach. Several years ago a Dude was fishing for Stripers with Mackeral chunks on a beach around Scituate, MA. Lol. He hooked a 150# BF and managed to land it with a VS 250. The thing got into too shallow water on a bar and he was able to wade out and get ahold of it. Otherwise it might have ended differently.
There's an area off race point up in Provincetown, MA (Cape Cod) where it gets very deep 175-200 yds. off the Beach. Giant BFs have been seen coming out of the water chasing Bluefish in this area. A yakked out bait and some planning might work, that is if the feakin' Seals didn't mess things up. ![]()
Right now as I read this thread, I have the TV on ;
Nat Geo has a show called "WICKED TUNA" these guys all go out of Gloucester MA,fishing for BlueFin at the Stellwagen Banks; sometimes they stay out overnite.
The Fishing is poor if you ask me, they don't catch very many,altho one guy did just get a 1,075LBS, over 10feet long.
Then these other guys are all jealous & saying how they "have to " beat the guy with the 1,075 Fish,
They fish "on top " of each other's rigs, talk about each other like dogs,
All in all it seems like they are not a nice bunch to be around;this is Fishing?
The Japanese pay 15 - $20,000.00 for fish like that one , so they are obsessed with catching BF Tuna over 73" so they can keep them & sell them.
After watching this stuff on TV,it's nice to get on the site here & check out what's going on, & be among Folks aho truly KNOW what Fishing is about ;and even better yet to be accepted by them.
