now a days that we all practise catch and release, alot of bulls across all the websites automatically crown a bull 400 lbs, just for being fat and over 8 foot, when in reality threw the years ive noticed that many of the bulls that look 400-500 lbs realy only weight 350-390. I feel way too many people crown themselves into the 400lb club with sharks that realy arent that big, also ive seen like 20 people show bulls that they say are 500-600 lbs when in reality most fisherman will never catch a 450lb bull let alone a 500 pounder in there lifetime.

I guess with everyone fishing catch and relese,they all get the benefit of the doubt, however Rene and Hammer are two of the best ever in the buisness , they both combined for over 60 years and thousands of sharks, yet they only have a handfull that ever cleared 450lbs. I rest my case.

my point exactly. a 500 plus lb bull is a once in a life time shark. there are atleast 10 sharks back in the day when killing was the norm, that i said wow thats definately 500lbs plus, only to be shocked at the scale when they barely clear 400

A better look!!I don't have the details on this shark but Shannon brought up a good point about only a few big ones actually hit 500 lbs .In many cases the fat pregnant females over 9 FOOT will be close to 500 pounds and even over (they are few) but most of the pregnant ones hover around 8 ft 4inch to 8 ft 9inch,,,,,,,,in looking back over the years ---few actually hit 9 foot .That's why I challenged Deaver on txsharkfishing when they claimed that the big bull caught in a South African river to be 1300 lbs and 13 foot long (my post was deleted when I respectfully challenged the estimated weight and I subsicuently broke off my relationship totally with Mr Deaver ).In none of the pictures did they show the overall length of the fish,,,,,,it was maybe 700-850 lbs from what i saw but no where near 1300 lbs.There are no records to show a bull shark anywhere in the planet between 800 pounds and 1300 pounds so I challenge anyone anywhere to produce evidence of such a BEAST!!!

One of many big bulls Rene caught in his times but I don't have a record of it's length(i think maybe 8 ft 9).Back then we mostly judged our sharks by weight not length even though we would often weigh and measure.

(2000) Rene de Dios with a 433 Lb Bull Shark.Notice the girth.

This guy caught it around the flats on Weeden island.I think he said their were 3-big bulls in the area in about 3ft of water.It was in the month of May and dropped around 16 pups after.I don,t think they lived that I remember.Then about 2weeks later a guy caught one off his dock that looked close to 500lb(cody-this is the one I think you heard about)he did try and release but it didn,t make it.....Dave.....this one too was around the same area

OK here goes....My first question;
I lived in Cape Coral, on a Salt Water canal , used to catch all kinds of fish off the little dock , { SE13st} used to get some big jacks ,couldn't believe it when a school would come thru, used to castnet mullet when they showed up , constantly had rays hit ,don't know how many, everyday I caught rays it seemed,
even watched a big green gar w/black spots come swimming by gulping air once,
Caught nice Snook on plugs around the other docks,
OK I never actually saw this Fish, but one night I was sitting there with 2 rods out ;one was a 50/80 w/Penn 309M {I know now} & a 7/0hk with 150#stainlessto 50#Big Game with a piece of stingray, something hit & took off like freight train, it broke the rig where the hook was swiveled onto it
Always wondered what the heck it was it felt HEAVY,
I know you can't tell but , think it could have been a BULL that swam up the canal ? The Gulf was n't that far .....
