After loosing a monster on my 16 0, I was mad and being a jerk.
I told everyone: "I'm done taking out baits, that's it I'm done with the BHC!!! I can't catch anything but Nurse Sharks or get cut off!!!"
Then my wife asks me about 20 min later, after I cooled down a bit "Hey, Lets just cast two more baits off the jetty and try to catch a Blacktip."
I said ok fine lets go, we'll cut this bonito in two chunks and cast them out on the spinner and 4 0.
The baits had only been out about 20-30min and the clicker on the 4 0 starts rolling slow...
We were using 18 0 Mustad Circle hooks with #19 wire and a tail leader of 600 mono.
She flips the drag and this Shark started to burn my 4 0 like it wasn't even hooked.
I was down to under 1/2 spool before we even got close to the beach.
We lucked out big time this shark swam due south right along the 2nd sand bar about 75 yards off the beach for over 1 mile.
after 30 min she had almost half a spool and then the shark had its second wind and almost dumped us.
She had a little under 100 yards at one point during the fight.
Then we saw the shark turn on its side, tired from over an hour of fighting.
We had 3 guys help us tail rope the shark get the overall length & tail shot and revive the pregnant female in the water to the point where she swam off strong.
Wow! That's awesome to land a 9ft bull on a 4/0!
Sweet! What type of rod is on the 4/0?
9ft 2inch Harnell 60-80lb class, I think the guy said it was a 542 I'm not sure.
