The "Monster Hole"

The "Monster Hole" was what we called the spot on the south east corner of the old south beach pier. When we rowed out our shark baits towards the southeast out about 300 yards towards the corner of the jetties that was where the biggest sharks were caught from so Rene named it the Monster Hole.No one could fish that damm corner when Rene was shark fishing which was all the time .He would let you fish the corner but he would have you take out your bait to the left of him.Rene knew that the Big Hammerhead sharks came in and out of the Inlet(Goverment Cut)looking for a weak tarpon or an easy meal to feed on so he put his baits out in that direction.Rene was a shark fishing BRAIN.He had a knack for getting hits while the rest of the shark fisherman were wondering how he did it.

Rene and the northeast corner is visble in the background -that was the preffered corner for catching the big mutton snappers

Hey Will. My uncle Jose has that news paper clipping as well. He's told me stories about the " Monster Hole ". He's told me that sometimes when you guys would paddle Shark baits out there you would sometimes also take snapper baits as well and sometimes catch nice muttons.
