[Sticky] SOUTH BEACH PIER-SHARK FISHING MECCA with Pictures
This section will be for posting all pictures and stories relating to the SOUTH BEACH PIER .We can post shark fishing and other stories about surfing, spearfishing, and the good times in general that were had by so many back in the 70's and 80's on the pier. Those were great times and it was a great place to spend endless summers carefree and chasing the big sharks and the pretty girls. This was the place where many of us cut our teeth in the shark fishing scene. This was the place where you went to see Rene de Dios in his finest hour, fighting the big sharks with a fierce passion that no one could match.Anyone that lived through those times in that place can claim to have lived in a special time in Miami Beach's history on that old but magical South Beach pier.I invite everyone who had a memorable expierience to share there story and pictures with us on this thread.Thank You.

we just spent 7 years in Germany ( army brat) when my father retired and we moved somewhere it was warm...fla!...the first day we moved down we were looking a place to live when we stumbled out on that concrete pier, i belive i was 12 at the time. i still rember the guys shark fishing out there using 1/2 kingfish for bait and a zodiak tied off under the pier for taking out the baits on those massive sized reels. i was 12 years old when i witnessed that from that concrete pier. from then on i read every book i could find on the subject and there was a lot on herb goodman in the st. lucie county school systems back then.....it wasnt till the age of 13 when a ole timer that fished our beaches gave me a 14/0 hook for helping them out that day ( fetching papst blue ribbion beer for them )....gotta start somewhere, anyways i still have memorys of that pier i visted many moons ago that 1st intoduced me to the sport.....it infected me and still does to this day...mike
