[Sticky] Rene's 14 foot hammer-Miami Herald article "Big Mouth"

Rene was an amazing shark hunter and this catch showed the world what he was capable of at an early age .Dated Dec 29,1974 it was never weighed and Rene's lack of expierience with guessing weights had him guessing 450 pounds when in all actuality this hammer would of been over 700 lbs if they had found a scale to put it on. The world record on 80 lb test at that time was a 620 lb specimen caught at Freeport Texas so this shark would of beaten the then current all tackle IGFA world record had Rene the presence of mind to submit for a world record.These guys were shark fishing on South Beach pier with pure passion and youthful exuberence but they were not hip to how world records worked yet.Later on Rene went on to break many world records some of which still are on the record books today such as the Caribean reef shark world record .
Big Mouth the title of the newspaper article was also a befiiting title for Rene because when he was on the pier everyone knew it ,,,,,,,no way to miss #1 Rene de Dios.This was the shark that started the Full Moon Hammer theory developed by the south beach crew and especially Rene;up to now the theory has produced many big hammers for us during the full moon.
