Rene's 10 ft 2 in 480 lb and 9ft 6 in 420 lb bull shark
Rene fished on his instincts. He knew that April in the keys meant big sharks but on this particular trip trip he sensed that a big bull was in the works. He fished Bahia Honda bridge with his wife to be Diana and a friend and was able in one night to catch two huge bulls the bigger which weighed 480 lbs.He fought that shark for 3 hours in the trecherously strong current that flows under Bahia Honda,,,at one point the shark went under on him when they were almost at the end of the bridge and he climbed down the bridge manuvered the line to the other side of the bridge and got his big bull 480 lbs and the other one went 420 lbs.
No.That was the hose that the guys use on there rods to protect them when they lean on the rail but after so many sharks the hose and tape that held it on the rod looked like minced meat.Back then there were no tie wraps so we used tape to hold the hose securely snug around the rod.
These two massive Bulls caught by Rene puts into perspective the Bulls we catch and think they are 400lbs plus. Here you have two Big Bulls measured at 10'2 and 9'6 and they weighed in at 480 & 420lbs. No doubt some Bulls have a much larger girth if they have pups etc. But I think this makes you think. For instance last year I got a Bull that was 8'7 and thick. I would say it was approaching 400lbs but I don't think it quite reached 400lbs. I would say it was more like 350lbs maybe 375lbs. I recall some Big Boy's being caught last year by Team Bullbuster that were 9'0. Also Jimmy Dean's 9'2 Bull I would say was over 400lbs and Hammers Bull in the Keys was an absolute beast at 9'0 and full of Pups. A couple of West Coast Bulls were Huge Bulls as well. Maybe we can start doing that formula and try and gage how much these fish really weigh? Anyways these two Bulls caught from The Legend Rene are absolutley Huge Bulls!!!!!!

I also think weighing a shark immediately will produce a larger weight than if hanging him first as blood/etc is a lot of weight in these sharks.
And if you measure them hanging you will most definitely get a longer measure as its shear weight will stretch himself out a bit
I've always known those 2 bulls were huge, never expected one to be over 10ft. That's almost unbelievable , I've talked to a lot of old sharkers on weights and measures of their sharks and most pregnant fish don't see over 450lbs, so all the people claiming there 600lb bulls should reconsider a bit.
, my biggest bull was around 300-320lbs, a real slob to me. But I wouldn't doubt if there were still some beasts in our own waters. By the way, I've seen a few pics of sharks taken to with that background. Where is it? it seems like a causeway in the bay in the South Miami area.
Just an average fisherman.
