Looks like plenty of national park area up there
in Chatham Cape Cod Plenty of places to soak
a bait I would think? Did'nt you guys go up
that way on a GW trip. I'd like to cruise up the
east coast that way and stop and fish anywhere
it looked good. I was checking into the licsences
in Mass are only like 10 bucks even for non residents
not quite as restrictive as Fl laws either. Well now I've
got another goal in my LBSF bucket...........cool

looks like good place to head this summer. I ran into a person the other day who lived in Cape Cod. So I asked him about Great Whites and he said they have them there for sure. It sure is closer than the Farallon Islands off San francisco.
Farallon Islands are actually part of the city of San Francisco, 30MILES outside of the golden Gate bridge,
The Farallon Islands are closed to the 'public', They are a "National Wildlife Refuge"; run by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Svc. what does that tell you?
A "gathering site for GREAT WHITE SHARKS for who knows how many THOUSANDS of years, ,the largest females 19feet/ over 2,450lbs,& Males 15feet with some tagged specimens ranging the Pacific to Hawaii & back to the Farallons again.
The DEVIL"S TEETH Abook written about the shark tagging & Researchers living there while doing thier research by Susan Casey , pretty good book
Oh yeah, the Islands are haunted too ,
Get a load of this: It is also a NUCLEAR WASTE DUMP SITE, & the Atomic Energy Commission designating it the "Farallon Island Nuclear Waste Dump" with 44,000 55gallon drums of contaminated material dumped @ 37degrees 37minutesNORTH 123degrees17 minutesWEST and3,500 55gallon drums dumped @ 37degrees 38minutesNORTH 123degrees08minutesWEST
& the HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE USSINDEPENDENCE scuttled &sunk JANUARY 1951.
The Islands are the scene of many shipwrecks ; including April 2012 a racing Yacht capsized during an annual Yacht race around The Islands throwing 7 of the 8 EXPERIENCED OCEAN Sailors into the SEA, wearing Life vests& cold weather gear 3 survived & were found , 4 have never been seen again.[sounds like just the place for a yacht race , huh??!!??]
Noonday Rock, named for a clippership that struck it & sunk on Jan. 1, 1863 is the shallowest part of FANNY SHOAL 5km WNW of N Farallones a bank 3KM long[55meters deep] rises fast from a depth of 37Meters with a "Least depth" of 4 meters [13feet] of water over it @Low Tide
The 30KM from SF by boat, the only way to the farallones , is said to be one of THE roughest rides anywhere,
WOW, Do The Farallones sound like a place to write a fishing novel about or what???!!? Between the GWSharks mysteriously gathering in Fall, the Nuke dump, all the shipWrecks, & the Haunted house&Island , there's got to be some good stories there!
So even tho Massachusetts is a "Liberal", "Lefty" political hotspot ,it's got to be better than going to the farallons.....at least you won't glow- in-the -dark after fishing there!

Great facts and information on the Farralon Islands and the surrounding waters. Thanks for sharing with us.I remember seeing the National Geographic Shark special filmed there about 10 years ago, and some of the biggest great whites I have ever seen on any documentary I saw in that special. The scientist hang a a fake seal tethered to a cable next th the light house on the cliffs they float it out in the current then they reel it in and film as the Great Whites breech and destroy the decoy. They identify and name the Great Whites by the shapes and marks on the dorsal fin. Many of the same sharks return year after year,,,very interesting and vital scientific research is done at the Farralons.
