2010 BHC Kickoff Shark Tournament Jan 8-16/Mar 12-20-2010
Fished hard and long everywhere.. dragging heavy coolers reels and kayak over a mile of sand and nothing but cut offs .. and fresh bait.... we headed to Dania to sign up.. then west palm... one run... then back to our coast to first venice pier.. then st pete... couple of non sharks caught.. then to sky way.. no runs... then to the local power plant where there was warm water... we got a 3 ft 2in bull and like 11 stingrays... seen some spinners jumpin and reports from the locals of bulls.. but nothing to show... then back to west palm to get cut off 4 times.. the surf was huge (which is dangerous on the rocks) we got baits out anyways after goin airborn in the yak.. everything seemed fine untill the seaweed showed up which pushed our anchored lines... so we packed up and headed back to venice area .. tried a local beach.. no runs.. damn this cold water... hard week of work an nothin to show.. cant wait till water warms up again......
Thank you everyone that participated in the tournament. I know that all of you fished hard and that was really awesome to see. I would like to thank Will for his constant support of the tournament and its preparations and Seaweed for showing me some tricks for the keys that are sure to come in handy when the weather gets better. Also I would like to thank my team for being there especially Eddie who our team would be nothing without. As there were no qualifying sharks I would like to extend for discussion to the rest of the club and the teams who participated in this tournament another short one week tournament which your entry fees to this tournament would go to. The tournament would be either a warm up for the 2010 BIG HAMMER CHALLENGE in March or it could be done in May.
Let me know what you guys think. If you would like your team entry fee sent back to you that is fine too. Hope to fish with all of you guys soon and thanks once again for fishing in the 2010 KICKOFF SHARK TOURNAMENT

Congrats to all the teams for your great efforts, despite the harsh conditions! And big props to sharkinmiami's efforts on organizing the event! Way to go bud! Tournaments take a lot of time and effort and few realize this.
God Bless, Shalom.

Rules:
1 ) Picture must be taken of shark with the secret item which will be decided at the captains meeting and a measuring tape which is marked at every foot .. these markings and the secret item must be visible in the picture for your shark to count. To prevent disbutes please also submit a photo of the measuring tape showing the numbers of the total length of the fish.
Sharks must be at least 5 feet and an extra 100 pts will be added for each foot exceeding 8ft. These measurements will be made in total length.
Those are the rules and I cannot give out a prize to any fish that was not measured. I spoke to you on the phone and sympathized with you that the one black tip you called me about could not be walked down the pier and I told you to take a picture of the fish with the can but the fish would not be able to qualify as a sole winning fish. If another team had caught one bull shark that was over 5 feet and you had also and where tied I dont think that any team participating in this tournament would have disputed that the tie breaker being the blacktip. I have seen the pictures and I cannot deny that those fish MAY be over 5 feet but the fact remains that you did not submit any fish that was measured and neither did any other team so the tournament is a draw. Next time mabye do not fish on a pier where you will have trouble measuring the fish you catch. I do not want any stupid controversy to come from this. The fact remains that I will not bend the rules, this thing was supposed to be a fun competition between sharkfisherman not something to start tension between anyone. Two things I can do for you guys are 1 either you can enter the next tournament abiding by the set rules that were not disputed at the captains meeting. (The point of the captains meeting was for all the teams to decide on rules in order to avoid controversy.) Or we can just send you your tournament fee back. I really hope that you guys choose the first option because I really respect you guys as fisherman and would like to learn from you. I joined this club to learn and become a better fisherman meeting people with a similar love for sharkfishing not to make enemies and it is unfortunate if that has been the outcome of me taking the time to set up a friendly competition between us all.

when i called you on the phone wednesday i told you i caught a blacktip over 5ft off the pier and i could not beach it because of lifegaurds and because there was over 50 people in my way to beach it. i asked you if the fish would qualify if i took a picure of it from the pier with the secret item. You told me to try to beach the fish if i can but if i cant then i CAN take a picure of it from the pier with the secret item and you said to take extra pictures so you can tell its over 5ft. i then asked you that if i catch anoughter one over 5ft and you said try to beach the fish if i can but if i cant then i CAN take a picure of it from the pier with the secret item. Now your telling me that the fish dont qualify. You never told me that i needed to measure a fish on top of those fish to win.
there is nothing we can relate the sharks length too, there is no way to infer through your pictures if the shark is 6ft or 3ft.
Thank you colby for the compliment, but you know your the soul of the team.

Bro if you cant tell a 3ft shark from a 6ft shark you must have no experience shark fishing.
this is a 3ft shark
this is a 6ft shark
when i was on the phone with you, you said that my sharks were over 5ft and some were 6ft.
You were so nervous on the phone and constantly studering because you know what you said wednesday.

when i was at the meeting you never went over that with me you handed me the rules and told me i could leave and start fishing so i dont understand that The point of the captains meeting was for all the teams to decide on rules in order to avoid controversy if you handed me the rules
You are the tournement director it is your job to enforce your rules. yet you told me on the phone that i can take a pic of my fish with the can off the pier and they would qualify. If you would have done your job and told me that i have to measure the fish we would have draged the fish down the 1000ft pier and measured the fish, most likly harming the fish or even death, that is why in other land shark tournements you take the picture off the pier with the secret item
