Well we got a invitation to fish "the grande bite shark tournament" a catch and release shark tournament in conjunction with Mote marine laboratory (Dr Hueter)and the film crew from THE BITE TV and we juimped at the oppurtunity to do battle
and compete with the west coast boys.My friend Capt. Kevin Pagan and
Jack Soler (cameraman)know Scott Shane from the popular fishing show and they wanted to film for an upcoming show.We trailered Scott's boat the Shane Gri La to Boca Grande .On the way over i called Shawn and Brooks Paxton and let them know about the shark tournament we were about to fish and they decided to meet us at the Captains meeting and afterwards at the hotel. That night at the hotel we all got together for some
beers and Shawn decided to call Frank Mundus (the original MONSTER MAN)and we each had the oppurtunity to talk to a living legend who at 80
is still active in the world of shark fishing;for me it was an honor to have spoken to one of my childhood idols and the man who was the inspirtation
for captain Quint in the movie JAWS.Years ago as a young man I sought out and met Herb Goodman the Boynton Beach lejend who put land based shark fishing on the map.We met Herb at a small hadrware shop he owened in Lake Worth and now to talk to Frank Mundus was the highlight of this trip;for me atleast.Frank is truly amazing with so much history and knowhow under his belt and yet so down to earth.Well
the turnout for the tournament was not what was expected but we had a great time and made new friends along the way and even got to talk to a living lejend-FRANK MUNDUS.The biggest shark was an 8 ft bullshark follwed by a 5-1/2 ft blacktip but we were satisfied.
