saving the keys bridges
Just an old article that i ran across about the effort to save the Florida Keys bridges and preserve them as fishing piers.I'm wondering if a plan with adequate funding was ever finally implemented. If anyone has any updated information plese share it with us.

The Miami Herald article from 1998.
Interesting article, I think the bridges are maintained by the state now as part of the Florida Keys historic trail (or something like that), personally I'm glad they haven't been improved or privatized with bait shops, etc, it keeps some of the crowds away. I do fear that eventually they will be all shut down, like the north end of 7 mile was recently, when the state determines them to be structurally unsound and won't pay to have them repaired.
