Collecting Data For our Cause

“How many tax models in our country today can show an $11 to $21 return to the company on every dollar spent,” said Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair U.S. Congressman Jeff Miller, R-Fla. “This is one of the most impressive examples of how an American industry can profit and bolster the economy while restoring and improving our nation’s cherished natural resources.”

Funding is then apportioned to state and territorial fish and wildlife agencies based on land area and state fishing and hunting license sales. Agencies combine these funds with the license revenues to conserve fish and wildlife and their habitats and create recreational and educational opportunities. In 2009 alone, more than $740 million was made available to states and territories in addition to the nearly $1.4 billion total paid by hunters and anglers in license fees.

“Outdoor activities like hunting and fishing have shaped who we are as Americans and they are important traditions that must be preserved." said Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair U.S. Congressman Mike Ross, D-Ark.

This excert from a FWC company contracted to do surveys for the state
kinda spells out just how much in revenue fishing puts on the bottom line
for governemnt and business interests. one of the questions on the survey
caught my attention and got me to thinking about just how much land based
sharkfishing contrbutes to the fishing and governmental agency. This kind of
data is what catches the eye of those who make policies. Mr Rick Scott is
1st and foremost a businessman. Perhaps some bottom line figures would catch
his attention on our plight. Jeff Miller is my local congressman and i am preparing
some data for him also as he the Co-Chair of the Congesional Sportsman Caucus.
It would hurt you guys to drop him a email supporting our cause with our rights to
fish and the money you spend yearly on that persuit. We gotta wake up guys and
play by their rules or we just become a side show of freaks who kill apex predators.

I don't know how to start a poll at this site but i would like to here from every member an honest estimation on how much you spend yearly on fishing. Don't forget licenses, gas, fishing gear, bait even the stop at the circle K any money spent going or planing to go.This can help compile some real in ya face data for people to look at. The population of sharks is not the real issue here it's dollars and cents folks

Just as an example:

If everyone on here spent an average of 600.00 (thats a lowball)
a year on fishing. That means that just the registered
number of fisherman on this forum contribute roughly

323,400.00 ayear

now lets say their must be at least 4 or 5 thousand
other guys in this state that shark fish but are'nt on
this forum (signatures on a petition) that would be......oh around

3,000,000.00

Now 3 million dollars can still be heard even in this economy.

This is somewhat of an estimate for me id have to sit down an figure it out but between going to the keys several times a year for 1-3 days and traveling far north between gas, food, bait, gear, time loading and unloading and other things that im forgetting i guess $1000 but sitting here thinking about it its probably more. As a matter of fact i know its more because if you think about it too your time planning it is money also but i would have to really sit and figure it out. Im sure other people spend more than that.

Thanks Bill if we can get the others to post a few estimates we can
at least put some sort of usable data together. The old sayin money talks
has never been wrong. And in this case it will make a difference. Charter boat
capts are lining up to fight this thing so we have a strong backing for this cause.
