Well the alabama game and fish has a new law stating that targeting sharks from the beach or pier by any method is illeagle. new BS law. More of our rights taken away. As soon as one state makes a law the rest are soon to follow. They make us look bad, they say we are useing blood bait and cause shark attacks. They said there are better spots to shark fish any way, like a millon dollar boat burning hunreds of gallons of fuel. How many cfc's do they have to put out to catch a fish? Its odd all the research we do for the scientists they are still against us. I am pissed. I will not be leasing our alabama club this year i will not buy an alabama licens and i will not spend my hard earned money at any alabama store. Its ashamed that some back woods thinking government will volontarly forfit our rights. The site is http://www.outdooralabama.com/QAonline/sharkbait08.cfm . I agree that chumming can cause problems but i dont chum. They are letting the fishing ride the bill while the chumming is pushing it through. The law is also un clear it says no shark fishing where it is indangering someone. so any one can point the finger and out comes the nazzi. Pretty soon they will out law free interprise or maybe corprate america has beat them to it.

That is B/S why do they have to target the land based shark fishing the sharks are there even if you are not fishing for them what is so hard for them to understand. Wonder what they are going to do to the person that is shark fishing 200 yards from the shore in a boat?

THAT'S A BUNCH OF BS!!!!

Write this in stone folks .If and when Florida follows Alabama and does the same thing I will personally spend every penny i have to sue the state ,,,,,,take the case to the supreme court and have that law overturned. My parents brought me to a free America fleeing a communist dictatorship and I and my children and all the generations that will come after will live in a free country so help me God.I'm sick and tired of seeing our rights stepped on and our freedoms eroded .The worst thing we can do is sit back and do nothing ,,,,,,,so remember we will be prepared when the moment comes to battle Tallahassee if they follow Alabama.

Wow thats crap. If Florida bans beach/pier shark fishing theres nothing thats gonna stop me from goin out there. If their worried about us sharkers attracting sharks to the beach when people are swimming, just ban it during daylight hours (even thought that would suck to). I feel like driving up to Alabama and tieing on a 20lb mono leader to a 1/0 J hook on all of my shark poles and putting a shrimp on then kayak out my shrimp and when they think I'm shark fishing cus I'm using my big reels and try to arrest me, I'll tell em that I'm whiting fishing or something just to piss them off. If they do arrest me for shark fishing with a shrimp and 20lb leader, then they might as well ban all fishing from beaches/piers.

Hi fellows, i have seen this same issue on local levels and can tell you what i had to do that seemed to fix the problem. I really dont think Florida would go this far but then again you never know. Most of the beach officials really dont care but they do it for tourist dollars we all know that. Back in the early 70s alot of beaches on a local level did away with it right after all the piers were declared off limits. This of course started after Walter caught the Tiger at Cherry Grove. I guess when you see a fish of that size come out of the water it has a way of keeping people put of the water. That being said here is a solution that worked and continues to work today. Sure, you coould go to many beaches and fish all you want until you get caught but the idea was to have a free hand and not have that to be concerned about. This will not work at every beach but for most it will. As you know beaches like Myrtle Beach are long and straight with little chance of setting up and fishing freely. On the other hand the small beaches are where the action is..My plan was to get a certain area to fish without disturbance. At the points of these beaches or the ends, they usually run into sounds or harbors. One beach inparticular dumps into the St Helena sound. The currents there are not good for swimming and the channel drops to deep water and shark follow the fishing and shrimp boats in and out. It works and has for many years. You have to be pro active sometime and go out and find the places. Its just a thougt and it may not work in your area but i just wanted to through it out there..

Hi again, what i ment was that when the individule beach communities wanted to ban shark fishing, we worked out a arrangement where we were allowed to fish certain parts of the beach. Usually in the areas where channels and sounds connect. swimmers are very rarely there because of currents and water depth and drop off. It worked out well for me..Ive been doing this a long time and i have found that most of the so called community leaders are very ignorant as to what we do. Just this summer i was vacationing at cape hatteras. My son and his family were swimming( i dont go in the water, seen to much) there was a guy surf fishing and cought a small blue about 7 inches long and he was curious what would happen if he stuck a hook in and threw it out. Well he did and in about 15 minutes a small black tip about 4 ft cleared water in the middle of all the swimmers and then stripped all the line of this guys spinning reel..My point being that they are everywhere anyway regardless if we fish for them or not...
