The only thing about groups like that is we are next in line to be harrased. There is a large portion of the gulf off limits to the longliners and more closures comming. I like the idea of no longlining but carefull who we side with, the fishermen or the conservationest. The value of the shark is low and that is the way to stop the comercial harvest, take the $ out of the fish and the fish is no longer indanger (world wide). They ant doing shit unless they stop the mexican longline fleet also. Putting more laws on americans just means more fish/fins for mexico. Every boat they take out of the water here just makes it possible for mexico to add 2. I think NOAA will do just fine without the law suites and conservationest. Send them to south east asia where the root of the problem is. The finning industry. They like to mess with the Japinese anyway.

Great point Earnie never thought about it like that but it makes alot of sense. You're right we over regulate the US fisherman and the rest of the world don't follow suit in protecting anything .They slaughter everything and we can't even fish and keep one for the table,,,,,makes no sense!!Best we can do is protect our rights to fish against those over zealous conservationist that would like to abolish us all together. They can stir the pot and have laws passed that hurt us but they are powerless to regulate other nations.

That's true what we do here punishing recreational fishermen and to a lesser extent commercial fishermen will NOT solve the worldwide problem! As for taking the $ out of fins, it's difficult, if not impossible as the demand will not go away, you have to convince 1.5 billion people in the R.O.C. and the rest of Asia that the tradition of having shark fin soup for weddings and sexual prowess boost is b.s.! Shark fins being a delicacy and aphrodisiac in their minds, they will pay and poor commercial fishermen in third world countries will fin to feed their families and themselves.!Shark fins are psuedo aphrodisiac as well all know here.I don't like the future....just my 2 cents!
