my leaders are either 360 single strand about 10 to 15 feet depending on my mood. to a larger swivel then from the swivel i have a length of roughly 10 to 15 feet of 400lb mono to another large swivel. on my mono i will put a snap swivel just a little guy to hold a anchor and a crimp about 3 to 4 feet above the bottom swivel and then on top of that i use a bead then a egg sinker and a bead then the swivel,

I had the pleasure of meeting a really old sharker thats sharked in florida since the 60s some time ago, when he looked at my rig he laughed and said you ever herd of (kis)= keep it simple before i could sound off he said make your rig as long as the shark you want to catch w/e you prefer j's or circles wire or cable brake away rock, led weight, ballon your bait etc. i started talking about thick mono leader before i know it he threw a photo album at me the size of a phone book with 100s of pictures, he took a sip of his beer as i looked at dozens and dozens of sharks over 8plus 10plus 12plus foot he said you think me and all my old passed buddys caught sharks making rigs like that i didnt know what to say he gave me a few old hooks and sent me on my way!! who was this old man lives down near fort myers beach? :?:

Good information on this post to help you "Catch the Big Ones" and in preparation for our upcoming 2013 Big Hammer Challenge Shark Tournament I would like to let you know what I prefer to use when fishing to catch large sharks.

I twist two strands of #19 wire 5 foot long on the biting end where the hooks are , a big barrel swivel, then and on top I use 15 feet of stainless 400 lb cable,,,,,,that simple .Forget the heavy mono on top we had a 12 foot tiger tail cut right through 400 lb mono three years ago and that's when I decided to use the best of both worlds---CABLE AND SINGLE STRAND #19 WIRE. This rig will almost guarantee you don't get get cut off by tailing whipping or bit off by serrated teeth of the big Tigers and others with similar teeth.

You all can enjoy catching your little sharks Im here to set records. My new rig that I'm going to start running is 20 feet of 1100 lb mono to 10 feet of #27 single strand 5 feet of it will be doubled. Not entirely certain of the hook yet but I am leaning towards circles only because I want all my sharks to survive. Im planning a trip up to cape cod this summer looking for a Great White.

Im new to this but not new to regular surf fishing. I can see using J hooks from boat, pier or anywhere u wouldnt have alot of line out, but how would you "set the hook" using Js if u have anything over 200yds out and actually be confident it stuck? I would think it would be nothing but circles for beach.
