What types of rigs are you using.
Multi - strand or single strand
circle hooks or j hooks
crimps or haywire twists
mono leader?
how are you keeping your baits on the bottom?
balloon or bottle?

Just thought Id try and get people talking.

I use different rigs for different targeted species.

Small sharks - 280lb 49 strand coffee cable with a 200lb mono leader. Held together with crimps. 10 - 12/0 J hook. Brick or rock to keep it on the bottom.

Medium Sharks - 480lb 49 strand coffee cable with a 300lb mono leader. With crimps. 12 - 14/0 j hook. Brick on the bottom.

Monsters. 970 - 3100lb 49 strand stainless steel aircraft cable. With a 500lb mono leader. U bolts holding cable together. And crimps for the mono. 14 - 20/0 J hooks. Brick or rock to hold it on the bottom.

Not asking for any secret rigs.

I've learned that for me i never put anything in the water that will not be ready for the biggest shark out there.

12/0 rosco's
1000 mono
either a 20/0 circle or 24/0 CB or 14/0 J Hooks
either 920lb nylon cable or #19 wire.

curious about the choosing of #19 wire with a haywire instead of cable with crimps and thimbles

Black coated galvanized 7x7 with at least a 500lb swivel (typically 12-15ft leader). Thats for anything i fish with smaller than my 12 everol. My 12 or 14 get 960lb swivels with 250-30ft leaders either straight 960 black coated 7x7 galvanized or same stuff in 480 with six feet or so twisted for the the bite. I use 2x or greater Mustad 12/0-14/0s or Jobu Big Game 11/0-12/0s.....and on my special monster rigs I use 14/0 Mustad Super Marlins.

I typically use eight foot of #19 wire to a 250lb swivel to a 12-15ft section of weed eater cable then a VMC 14/0 welded eye 4X Tuna/Marlin hook. Just got some #10 wire and some 13/0 Eagle Claw circle's to try out but haven't tried them yet.

I've seen #19 Wire doubled up and about 10ft of it for the rig.
But I think the guy had 12+ft of 400+lb cable single crimp for the tail end of it with a cast net swivel. I think 14/0 or 16/0 J hooks x2.

I've only heard bad things about the way that weed whacker stuff breaks..., if you think about it, its soul purpose wasn't for fishing and probably wasn't built for tugging strength.

Just an average fisherman.

Thats true. Although, Ive never broken it before, but I dont frequently hook into fish like some of you guys do. I just use it because I can get alot of it, easily, any shape color or size (work for Lowes). Around me HEAVY mono is kinda hard to come by or expensive and I rarely order anything off the internet. (usually lack the funds) Before I started using it I tied about 6ft of it to a tree limb overhead, the stuff I use I can hang from and do pullups and bounce on one strand of it. Keep in mind I really only weigh 151lbs. The day I break it I'll be cutting it all off and throwing it away. And going to F.I.S.H, Fishermans, ideal, supply, house. Commercial grade suppliers. I used to use 10ft of 780lb cable to a castnet swivel then 15ft of yellow nylon or castnet rope, then finished with another castnet swivel, But I didnt like all the drag in the water it had and just seemed like too much crap in the water. The oldschool guys that taught me still use the rope.

I dont typically like to use mono leader if I can get away without it. Less connectionsd equals a greater chance that a knot wont slip!
