The end of the battle -the leader man, and tail rope man
You've fought that dream shark for an hour and now when you get him in close to the beach and it's the biggest thing you've ever seen ,,,,,,,well the job is only half finished at this point.Your team's skill and expierience when handling big sharks in the surf are important but anyone can learn how to do it correctly with enough practice . Many prize sharks have been lost in the wash from lack of following some simple rules .As the shark nears the beach the ideal situation is for the person who is going to be handling the leader to have on a pair of thick gloves, and ready to grab the swivel at the top of the fisherman's leader .Once the leader is in the hands of the leader man he takes control of the shark's movements by cotrolling the head.Do not over exert too much pressure on the leader at this point for fear of pulling the hooks. By keeping moderate tension on the leader the shark is guided in when the leaderman starts to backpeddle towards the sand.Make sure you know how deep the water is next to the shoreline before you step in to leader a shark.Waist deep water or deeper can bring you in contact with a mad angry shark willing to tear your leg off in one swift bite so a key RULE here is to try and use 15 to 20 foot leaders so you can work the shark in from a safe distance. If the water is too deep by the sand or there is a steep drop off make sure to wait for the leader's swivel while standing safely on the sand.REMEMBER SAFETY COMES FIRST!!!At this point the tail rope man moves in quickly but with much precaution to slip the rope on the tail and take more control of the fish .Once that tail rope is on GAMES OVER!!!! It's a caught fish in my book. On a big shark it is very important to utilize the advantage of the tail rope and take your shark onto the shallow water or the sand to take your pictures ,remove your hook, and tag and release your prized catch with minimal damage to the animal. Many sharks are lost in the wash becuase an inexpierienced wire man pulls at the wrong moment,or pulls too hard causing the hooks to pull or straighten out,,,,,,,,i've seen all those scenarios. When a waves rolls in and the shark is lifted by the water is the perfect moment for the wireman to backpeddle towards the sand .Keep moderate tension on the leader while you move the shark towards the sand and when the tail rope is finnaly secured you can exert more pressure on the leader to keep the shark moving and also to keep it's head away from the tailrope man.The tail rope man should act swiftly and secure the rope as fast as possible. No room for a scared inexpierienced rope man when trying to catch a big powerful shark. If you have two man available in your team to secure a tail rope have one man grab the flaying tail to give the rope man a chance to put the knot on the sharks tail. When bending over to grab the shark's tail you're gonna get wet and probably knocked around so you better expect it, but it's all worth it in the end.A big advantage would also be to have the rope man wearing long sleeved t shirt to reduce the abrasions caused by a big shark's tail slapping your arms when trying to secure the rope. BIG TIGERS Big Tigers will roll and roll ,slap and twist and hurt you bad if you slip up so believe me from expierience this is the most crucial moment ACT SWIFTLY BUT CAUTION.The final moments and the tail rope will determine wheher you suceed or fail. BIG HAMMERS Big hammers will slap and slap and you're gonna get hit in the face and arms by that fast non stop tail ,,,,,,,,,oh and be very careful a hammerhead can bend into a complete O and bite you if you get careless.

Sounds like ya done that or something. If help is few and far between the real battle is at the beach. The most exciting part of it. Just dont get in the water until the fish's belly is on the sand. The last thing we need is a land based shark attack, the press would love to print some propaganda to do with some thing like that.

Remember this, If a shark dies, And we hope it wont.
LONG AFTER it dies it can STILL bite you...I have seen bullsharks over and hour dead still react and bite when someone trys to get there precious 1$ hook back.
A sharks mouth is much like a gators, If it feels something in there it clamps down. It is a "nerve " reaction.
nah man i have just set back and watch guys fish i have one friend that bent his handle on friend broke his handle and i keep telling them fight the damn fish not the rod dumb ass lmao

Along with what WILL said about HAMMERS twisting into a big " O " to bite you ,
small Sharks can twist right around & nail you if you grab the tail at the base, ahead of the actual caudal fin,
Just saying this for folks that haven't caught many ; they'll all bite given the opportunity........
