Stainless Steel Wire or Piano Wire and Cable?
Hey guys,
Having had cable cut a few times last year in florida i figure single strand is the solution to the problem. The question i have is, do you prefer to fish with the stainless steel or piano wire? What are the pros and cons of both?
Thanks for your help guys.
Matt
I like piano wire because you can get a bunch for cheap...so even though it rusts which is good for the fish if you have to leave the hook in...you can just retie if you have old rigs cause you have plenty of wire for cheap
it just takes more time out of fishing so we'll generally make plenty of rigs before we get to the beach....and its easy to haywire ![]()
Ok sounds like both will work well. Stainless I imagine would be hard to have a bite off. I did some research and the #19 piano and its rated 500lb while the stainless is rated 400lb. I think i will give both a shot.
I appreciate the advice guys. I am taking notes.
Anyone else have opinions?
Matt
I have always used galvanized 3/32 aircraft cable. I found 49strand stainless and used it for a while. The stainless will frey and come apart for some reason. every leader i have made useing galvanized does not. The galvanized doesnot frey near as bad as the stainless. It wil rust and ya have to replace it when it's rusted. I have never reeled a galvanized leader in that was dammaged to the point to falling apart. Also if ya have 2 hooks there is a problem with the first hook setting and the other hook faul hooking and the two hooks fighting one another. Any way the second hook is positioned presents problems with de hooking and the fish pulling the leader apart useing the hooks against one another. If pier fishing the second hook will faul up the roap so ya will only have one chance per roap.
