ORCA the RC kayak -for bait deployment
I have a red light on one side and a yellow one on the other side. Kinda like a bow light. I'm shure it will work for short baits at night. We ran it in 15kt winds with a considerable chop a couple days ago. As far as how long it took to make I'm not shure. I started it and a month later I had it working but not dependable. I lost it the first night I used it with a 15 to 20 kt west wind. I caught up to it2 miles down the beach. Hands down the hardest paddle I have ever had. The head wind was rough along with orca still trying to go in a circle. After that I got aggregated with it and didn't work on it till a couple months ago. I work at a canoe rental so I have learned how to weld plastic fixing the kayaks that my brilliant employees drag down the road behind the trailer. It took 3 kayaks (destroyed ones) priced together to make it. Probaly 40 hrs. I had the trolling motor. the only things I bought was the batteries switches and servos. Probably 500$ at the most. Today we ran 10 baits and caught a 5' and a7'2" tiger so it is a proven fish producer. Hats off to ole Herb Goodman cause he was where my idea started. Thanks for the good replies especially you Will.

That sure is a good idea!
For a little project one time I made a 3' plywood boat. It looked kinda like a canoe that had a really deep hull. I always thought it would be good for running small baits. It was a RC boat, and it had no way to drop it. It couldn't handle anything over a ripple in the water.
One time, I ran catfish baits off a bridge on Lake O, just to say that I did ![]()
Back when I was a kid. My best friend and I had a rc boat for catfishing at truman dam in Mo. It worked great. 1 would run the rod and the other would run the boat. Big cat would lay right a the base of the dam and you could not get close to them because of safe area. We used the boat to drag the bait to the dam. we had a hook thing on the back, that we could open and close with the control. It was awsome. We caught some good cat way but we only had maybe 100y range and when they was letting the water out the boat did not work. Since then the state has made it illeagel to do it.
How do you deploy the bait? close the drag and pull it of? I never thought it would work in shark fishing. I like that idea, alot better then me and a kayak at night ![]()
Orca done great today in 4/6 seas. Been dependable and easy to use. I ant paddled a bait in 2 weeks. Has not showed a single weakness. It still ant no replacement for a good kayaker. I could put a small ridge at the back to hold the bait on in rough seas. Working on a few ideas for night use. I can modify it as need be and as I figure things out it will get modified.

For full dark, stick some SOLAS Reflexite USCG type II FD 1403 is 8 mils thick which is specially designed for extreme marine weather where will give you the advantage to see your ORCA in full dark beaming towards the direction of your RC with a low light. You can combine these tapes in whichever way you want so you can know from distance what's going on. In case of failure, which sooner or later will happen you can always know exactly where your ORCA is just by using your headlamp and recovering it through freezing cold waters.
These tapes are not cheap, but they all well worth every penny. You can find sellers on ebay and negotiate to sell you few feet rather then spending hundreds of bucks for one roll.
Once you'll have this tape in your hand, you'll get MANY ideas.
These tapes are certified by U.S. Coast Guard Specification G-Sec-393A for use on Maritime Aids to Navigation, where they need to reflect high light from 2 miles, visible from an airplane in ruff sea conditions at angles less then 10 degree or over half miles at boating height conditions, in other words these are the most reflective tapes - commercially available that use the prismatic technology to reflect light back to the source.
Don't use them in traffic, they are designed to reflect radar as well, so you'll just gonna amplify you speeding radar signature.
Pure Florida GENIUS, never seen anything like it at any pier, jetty, or fishin' hole ANYWHERE
How about this: along with REFLEXITE TAPE, either big glowstix,or "Running LIGHT" on those little chrome 'poles' like the Cabin Fishermen run ? About 3 or 3-1/2' hi ought to do it;Then you can see it two ways, either shine a hi powered flash or spotlight on it & reflect the tape , or turn the running lite ON!
