Helo all, new here im a local tampa florida fisherman fishing the beaches of sand key and indian rocks beach. Ive gotten into shark fishing using a 8 foot star rod and a 7 foot silstar both heavy action and with shimano 6500 bait runners and 20 pound power pro line. my question is i can cast about 20 to 30 yards with these poles and a 3 ounce sinker is this far enough for good sized sharks. and does anyone have any advic on newbie tactics to hook up on a good fish. Oh by the way im usualy using half of a frozen mullet as bait.

live bait is most of the time best. i personally like stingrays for bait. but i have used frozen mullet. a live lady should be good. if your mullet arent to big try hooking through the head and just cut the tail off. maybe some guys from your area will chime in and say what works on thos beaches. im trying to learn the beaches up that way. i mostly fish boca grande and skyway.
