does this work and can it withstand a large amount of drag pressure?

Yes and yes. It has withstood over 60lbs of drag pressure and withstood the test and brought the fish in. I ha e several splices on my 30w and have complete confidence in it, much more than ANY knot.

True it will withstand a lot. Knot will give out way before that connection does.

I have a 13 ft heavy action surf rod, I run 30lb main line to a wind on leader using the same type of splice I have snapped my main line before and the splice was fine, it really works.
