How to: Put the most pressure on a fish thats running
Sonny,
If everything else is equal, and the rollers are functioning properly, the rollers should be smoother. Smoother = less drag.Sarge
a roller gives more surface area for the line to resist... picture the pressure between your line rolling smoothly on a ball (such as a roller tip would create) vs. your line running on a non-moving steel or ceramic rim. But a non-functioning roller would probably put up more force
. I have yet to test out the rod bend drag pressure theories, but I do believe it's a completely different story depending on factors such as conventional or spinning rod and such as stiffness of the rods being tested. I believe a noodle of a lamiglas will pull out different numbers than an unlimited bridge crane... also rod lengths should be a factor. How high the line is off the blank, how far the guides are spaced, the factors are endless, this experiment has too many dependent factors for any individual to be right. ![]()
Just an average fisherman.

X2, Line could make a big difference in the numbers too. Diameter, and how smooth it is. Lots of differences to factor in. Braid would create different numbers than smooth mono. Its all more or less friction.
The amount of drag created by the friction from line going through the guides is rather small compared to the drag created by person and there gear (fishing system) if fished correctly. There are four major factors in a fishing system the person, reel, rod, and line and there importance in that order. because the factors in this system change from person to person its imposable for there to be an absolute for every body but not for any one person. If all these factors are applied correctly, one being the way to maximize the power delivered by a fisherman is by using the most efficient bend of the rod (long range is the style used on the beach), than the result is the maximum amount of drag applied on a fish by that person. the key in sharkinmiami's argument is efficiency. I think sharkinmiami was trying to say this in a simpler way and i agree with him and his mentor completely?
