I dont believe you!!!!!!

That's a little shovle nose in the picture!!!!! lol

biggest shark i've got was a 6'6" bull off a bridge about 200+ really fat on a penn 9/0 while the tide was ripping out going and 15 mph wind pushing it . locked drag he took me down to about 1/4 spool left.

Just wanted to clarify, i am not saying to slam over a 100lbs of drag on a shark instantly. with the leverdrag reels i fish you dont have strike position and u dont have to preset the reel. You have full drag capability at all times. So i set hook based on feeling of shark size and slowly add pressure to break his back. For instance i got to a 1/4 of drag my reel is capable of on a 8ft plus tiger and he gave up. Some of the lakeworth guys can attest to it. I look at it like this, if i harnessed a person to 100lbs and slowly added more weight he would tire faster than just throwing 300lbs from the getgo. if he can get the initial weight moving and ur maxed out ull never stop him. plus youll pull hooks most of the time with over a 100lbs of pressure

I hooked a shark, had to be a monster 1000+ hammer, out at ft desoto pier that stripped well over 500yds of 200lb braid on over 100lbs of drag. he was slowing before i got cut on the shipping channel buoy. This was on my modified 12 everol, if this was on a 14 or 16 senator i would have had an empty reel. Senators will bring in monsters in the right conditions, but most of the time conditions arent perfect. People say new leverdrag technology compared to old school senators, well my 12/0 everol is from the 70s and was designed in the 50s. Then people say senators are superior line capacity, well my 12 holds only about 100yds less of 130mono than a 14/0 senator. I reeled from my 12 packed to my old 14 senator. Price is the only advantage i see to senators, and like timmy said....fun. I drag in sharks under 10ft with no issue on my everols, so it isnt as fun. But i want that record monster, so i will fish with the best in preparation for my meeting again with him.

THIS PERTAINS TO MASTERING GIANT HAMMERS and only GIANT HAMMERS

You can have over two thousand yards on your reel or a reel that creates close to 100 lbs of drag but in both cases you will sometimes find that neither one is suitable for the MONSTER you hook. For most of the big sharks a Penn 14/0 (the American workhorse)will suffice but not always.
The hammerhead shark and this conversation only pertains to the biggest of them because not even a 13 foot tiger can do what a bigass hammer can do so the question is not even so much what reel do I use but where do I fish to target one and how do i survive once I've hooked it.Reel is important but not as important as luck in stopping one of these monsters,if you're lucky you might catch one on a Penn 12/0 on a lucky day
There is no harder pulling shark from a coast then the hammerhead shark. Some sharks are not meant to be stopped but rather CHASED on a boat because they are too large from land but that is a rare happening,,,,one classic example was Timmy's giant hammer at Lake Worth pier that stripped over 2000 yards of line another was Shannon's shark that stripped a 12/0 and almost completly a 14/0.No matter what reel you have a giant hammer will require top notch equipment ,a top notch rig, line, excellent skills, stamina and lots of luck.

Yea man that about hits the nail on the head....I thought 2400yds of #200 tuff braid on A solid big reel would be the ticket for landing the..."BIG ONE"!.......................GUESS NOT!!!!!! we all learn that there is always A bigger nigga when flirting with disaster!!!We lose some and then we win some.  8-)
