14/0 or 16/0

Im thinking about getting a 16/0 but everyone i know is trying to get me to get a 14/0.
What are your guys oppinion between the two?

well you know they are basic the same reel a 16/0 is a 14/0 wide i know you can a new 14/0 from some one on the forum here i think its surf rat for like 450 or so
a 16/0 i have seen sale for as much as 1500 depending on its shape

Same reel ,same gears,16 is wider,MORE LINE CAPACITY but also heavier and harder to levelwind with your left thumb ,,,,especially if you have smallish hands.The 14/0 is the all time classic ,,,,almost perfect in all respects so i would go with THE 14 and later if you encounter a few monsters that spool you on the 14 and you have the strength to handle a 16 -GO FOR IT.These Penn Senators are almost indestructble and owning one is owning a part of Big Game Fishing History.

i say go with the 16/0
there just isnt enough line on the 14 if you ask me .i owned a 14 an i couldnt stand it i had to get rid of it .now i still have my 16 an i love it wouldnt give it up for anything

dont worrie about level winding just invest in a good harness an its no problem

I love my 14/0 and if i have the $ I buy a 16/0, three on ebay right now one starting bid at $1000.00, another at $750.00 and another $575 :o

I'd go with the 16/0 Senator reel. Back when I fished I owned two of them and they served me well!

i went with the 16/0 i love it so far. its my new lucky reel the first time it touched water it hooked a beast that didnt even flinch when i set hook on he kept running for another 200 yards maybe even 300 and spit hook. oyh yeah i forgot to say it was on a almost locked drag! thanks for all your input

wow bro that must have been a beast

i caught my biggest shark on my 16/0 it was a 496 bull an he only pulled like not even 10 feet on locked drag

he just started swiming towards the seawall on channel 2

fishman just said his biggest bull is 496 thats huge even if he meant to say 396 and made a typo thats still got to be a big bull
