Sharks not a threat to swimmers

It’s a shame that public officials use the movie Jaws as the basis for their actions instead of science and common sense.
Would it kill those bozos to talk to someone who actually knows something about our local waters before they close beaches and try to ban shark fishing?
They should consult with someone like Capt. Greg Bogdan, one of the most knowledgeable fishermen I know. Bogdan fishes nearly every day and he has a degree in marine biology from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
He was fishing just offshore for cobias and African pompanos Wednesday when he called to talk about a potential shark story.
“I’m looking at a couple of hundred people on the beach,” Bogdan said, “and the kids have got their toes in the water.”
That’s because the beach was closed because of sharks in the water. As Bogdan noted, the water was “crystal clear” and sharks would have no trouble seeing people, which means they wouldn’t want anything to do with people.
“You jump in the water and those sharks take off. These [public officials] are crushing tourism. Almost all shark bites are accidental. There’s no way they’ll bite someone in clear water.”
And here’s another thing Bogdan said: Sharks are swimming along South Florida beaches all the time. Now that people can seem them because of the clear water, they are panicking. And along those lines, to ban anglers who fish from beaches for sharks from fishing is ridiculous. The anglers aren’t attracting sharks to the beach, the sharks are already there.
RIGHT ON BROTHER!
These are things we HAVE BEEN SAYING AT ALL THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS DELRAY,BOCA, etc ,etc, while the officials with there heads up there azz play stupid ,the locals do there "sharks are dangerous war dance" and we have been harrassed ,made to feel criminal ,all because we want to fish for sharks .Thanks to those who have let common sense and good science prevail,,,,,,those who have labored to take on these knuckle head city officials ,to research and find the state laws that are IN PLACE AND HAVE BEEN IN PLACE FOR DECADES that protect our right to fish the beaches REGARDLESS OF WHAT SPECIES WE FISH FOR!!
Thank God we have turned the corner and better judgement is being used by writers of local newspapers and people like Blaine Dickerson the Boca Raton Marine Advisory committee member who as an educated angler understood the injustice being perpetrated against the beach fishermen and stood up for us and thank God for people like Mojo who find these articles and post them here so we can stay informed and up to date .Thank you all.
